Mount Kurama
is a mountain to the north of the Japanese city of Kyoto. It is the birthplace of the Reiki practice, and is said to be the home of Sōjōbō, King of the Tengu. Kurama is also the location of the annual , which takes place every October. is now designated as a national treasure of Japan. Great-Tengu Sōjōbō was supposedly the Tengu who taught swordsmanship to Minamoto no Yoshitsune. The philosopher Hayashi Razan lists one of the three greatest of the ''tengu, daitengu'' as Sōjōbō of Mount Kurama. The demons of Kurama and Atago are among the most famous ''tengu''. Holistic healing The mountain is also known as the birthplace of the holistic healing art called Reiki. Kurama-dera
is a temple in the far north of Kyoto, Japan which houses some National Treasures of Japan. It was a member of the Tendai sect and subordinate to Shōren-in from the 12th century until 1949 when it founded its own religious body. The object of worship is esoteric and unique to the temple. It is said to have been founded by a disciple of Jianzhen. Situated in secluded wilderness at the base of Mount Kurama, it is accessible by its own Aerial lift, cable car line, the Kurama-dera Cable. History The temple was founded in the 8th century AD. Its origins are historically unclear, but it is said that the Chinese monk Jianzhen initiated a disciple into the Buddhist path, who saw in a dream in 772 that Mount Kurama had a spiritual power and built an esoteric temple to concentrate and control this power. Japanese Battlecruiser Kurama
was the final vessel of the two-ship of armored cruisers in the Imperial Japanese Navy. ''Kurama'' was named after Mount Kurama located north of Kyoto, Japan. On 28 August 1912, the ''Ibuki''s were re-classified as battlecruisers. Background ''Ibuki'' was designed with geared steam turbines which promised more power and hence, more speed; however, problems with these engines led ''Kurama'' to be completed with conventional vertical triple expansion reciprocating engines. ''Kurama'' was built at Yokosuka Naval Arsenal. JDS Kurama
JS ''Kurama'' (DDH-144) was the second ship of the in service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). Construction and career ''Kurama'' was laid down on 17 February 1978 and launched on 20 September 1979 by IHI Corporation Tokyo Shipyard. She was commissioned on 27 March 1981, into the 2nd Escort Corps (Sasebo) together with . She was the first Maritime Self-Defense Force ship to be equipped with Phalanx CIWS. She was also equipped for the first time with a sonar that can detect submarines over long distances, and in cooperation with the onboard helicopter, it was possible to detect and destroy enemy submarines before they approach. Based on the track record of this ship, CIWS and tactical towed sonar were adopted as general-purpose escort vessels of the Maritime Self-Defense Force built after that, in which became standard equipment. Kurama Tatsuya
Kurama Tatsuya (16 December 1952 – 26 January 1995) was a sumo wrestler from Yasu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. He made his professional debut in 1968, reaching the top ''makuuchi'' division in 1976. His highest rank was ''sekiwake'' and he won three special prizes and two ''kinboshi.'' He was well-known for his good looks and flamboyant personal life. After retiring in 1989 he became a sumo elder for a short time before leaving the Japan Sumo Association to work as a commentator and television personality. He died of leukemia in 1995. Career At junior high and at high school he did swimming and rugby, but was especially proficient at judo. He made his debut for the Tokitsukaze stable in September 1968. Kurama (Naruto)
The manga and anime series features an extensive cast of characters created by Masashi Kishimoto.
