Kunitoshi Manda
is a Japanese film director, screenwriter and film critic. Biography Kunitoshi Manda was a student at Rikkyo University, where he took Shigehiko Hasumi's filmology class. Manda directed his first feature film, ''Unloved'', in 2001. It won the Grand Rail d'Or prize and the Future Talent prize at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. ''The Tunnel'', one of his television films, screened at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Manda's third feature film, ''The Kiss (2007 film), The Kiss'', premiered at the Jeonju International Film Festival in 2008. Japanese film critic Inuhiko Yomota praised the film as "a fantastic film." His 2014 film, ''Dog's Way'', premiered at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival. Jeonju International Film Festival
Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF, Korean: 전주국제영화제, Hanja: 全州國際映畵祭) is an Asian film festival. It was launched in 2000 as a non-competitive film festival with partial competition. It introduces independent and experimental films to focus on the alternative course of contemporary film art. In the first edition of JIFF, debut films of Darren Aronofsky were introduced to South Korea. For the first time in Asia, Jiff highlighted early works of Béla Tarr as well. The winners of Jeonju IFF's ''International Competition Section'' include Ying Liang, John Akomfrah and Miike Takashi. Another point of Jeonju is that it produces movies as well. The , also sometimes called YIFFF, is held in a resort-like environment in the small town of Yūbari on the northernmost Japanese island of Hokkaidō. From 1990 to 1999, the festival was known as the Yubari International Fantastic Adventure Film Festival. History In 1990, the last coal mine in the Hokkaidō mining town of Yūbari having closed, the city leaders were looking for a way to revitalize the local economy. is a Japanese author, cultural essayist, translator and film historian. His real name is . Biography Inuhiko Yomota was born on February 20, 1953, in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo Prefecture, but grew up in Tokyo. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in religious studies, and continued in graduate school there to study comparative literature and culture. After finishing graduate school, he traveled the world as a guest professor and researcher at Konkuk University in South Korea, Columbia University in the United States, the University of Bologna in Italy, Tel Aviv University in Israel and Pristina University in Kosovo. He was formerly a professor of film studies and comparative literature at Meiji Gakuin University. He is married to Chie Tarumi, a scholar of Taiwanese literature during the Japanese occupation.
