Kunene River
The Cunene (Portuguese spelling) or Kunene (common Namibian spelling) is a river in Southern Africa. It flows from the Angola highlands southwards to the border with Namibia. It then flows in a westerly direction along the border until it reaches the Atlantic Ocean. Geography One of the few Perennial stream, perennial rivers in the region, the Cunene is about long, with a drainage basin in area. Its mean annual Discharge (hydrology), discharge is to at its mouth. The Epupa Falls lie on the river. Olushandja Dam dams a tributary of the river, the Etaka, and helps to provide the Ruacana Power Station with water. The main stream rises in 12th parallel south, 12° 30′ S. and about 160 miles in a direct line from the sea at Benguela, Benguella, runs generally from north to south through four degrees of latitude, but finally flows west to the sea through a break in the outer Highland, highlands. Kunene Region
Kunene is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital is Opuwo, its governor is Vipuakuje Muharukua. The region's name comes from the Kunene River which forms the northern border with Angola. Geography Besides the capital Opuwo, the region contains the municipality of Outjo, the town Khorixas, the self-governed village Kamanjab, and hundreds of small settlements like Otjomotjira. Kunene is home to the Himba people, a subtribe of the Herero people, Herero, as well as to Damara people and Nama people. , Kunene had 58,548 registered voters. Cunene Province
Cunene is a province of Angola. It has an area of 87,342 km2 and a population of 990,087 in 2014. Ondjiva is the capital of the province; it was previously known as Vila Pereira d’Eça. Ondjiva is the only city in this province with the distance from Ondjiva to Luanda is 1424 km and to Lubango is 415 km. The Cunene River gave its name to the province. Cunene lies north of the Cunene River, which forms the border between Angola and Namibia. Cunene is traversed by the northwesterly line of equal latitude and longitude. Kenny Kunene (born 21 October 1970) is a South African businessman, politician, motivational speaker, teacher, activist and convicted criminal. Kunene currently serves as Deputy President of the Patriotic Alliance. He served as Secretary-General of the Patriotic Alliance from 2013 to 2014. While working as a high school English teacher, Kunene opened a shebeen selling alcohol after work and began engaging in criminal activities including robberies and fraud. In 1997, he was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme for which he served six years in prison. After his prison stint, Kunene became a motivational speaker and became active in local politics. Mazisi (Raymond) Kunene (12 May 1930 – 11 August 2006) was a South African poet best known for his translation of the epic Zulu poem '' Emperor Shaka the Great''. While in exile from South Africa's apartheid regime, Kunene was an active supporter and organiser of the anti-apartheid movement in Europe and Africa. He later taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, and become Africa's and South Africa's first poet laureate. Early life Kunene was born in Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, to Eva Kunene (''nee'' Ngcobo), a teacher, and Mdabuli Albert Kunene, a labourer. From very early in his childhood he began writing poetry and short stories in Zulu, and by the age of 11 he was being published in local papers.
