Kulathupuzha
Kulathupuzha is a town in the eastern part of the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It is one of the important pilgrim spots linked with the legend of Sabarimala. It is the birthplace of the Malayalam music composer Raveendran. Kulathupuzha is the source of the Kallada River, Thenmala Dam (KIP) is located on this river. As declared by the Governor, Arif Mohammad Khan, Kulathupuzha panchayat is the first in India to have achieved constitution literacy. Kulathupuzha Sastha Temple
Kulathupuzha Sastha Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shasta, located in Kulathupuzha in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It is one of the five important Sastha temples in Kerala, the others being Aryankavu, Achankovil, Sabarimala and Kanthamala. The idol there is believed to have been installed by Parashurama and is made up of eight pieces of stone. The temple is known for the ''Meenoottu'' (fish feeding) offering. The temple is governed by the Travancore Devaswom Board. Location The temple is located in Kulathupuzha in the tehsil of Punalur in Kollam district. Raveendran
Madhavan Raveendran (born Kulathupuzha, Kollam, 9 November 1943 – died Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 3 March 2005), also known as Raveendran Master, was a South Indian music composer and playback singer from Kerala. He composed songs for more than 150 films primarily for the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. He also composed a few albums, including ''Vasantha Geethangal'', ''Ponnonatharangini'' and ''Rithugeethangal''. Raveendran composed melodies based on Hindustani Ragas also. Early life Raveendran was born on 9 November 1943, in Kulathupuzha, a small village in the present-day Kollam district. He is the seventh child (of nine children) of Late Madhavan and Late Lakshmi. Kallada River
The Kallada River is the longest river in Kollam District, Kerala, India. The river originates in Kulathupuzha, in the Western Ghats, and flows west, reaching the Arabian Sea after traveling a distance of . River Course The Kallada originates from the south eastern part of the Kollam district. The river originates as multiple streams arising from the Shendurney wildlife sanctuary. The most prominent among these are the Kazhuthuruttiyaaru, which arises from Rosemala and Ambanad Hills and flows southward, the Kulathupuzha river that flows northward from near the Ponmudi hills and the windward side of Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve, and west flowing streams that arise from the windward side of the Courtallam Hills. State Highway 2 (Kerala)
State Highway 2 (SH 2) is a State Highway in Kerala, India that starts from Thiruvananthapuram Peroorkada and ends near Thenmala Kollam by joining with Kollam-Tirumangalam NH-744. The highway is 73.2 km long. The major towns in this highway are Nedumangad, Palode, Madathara and Kulathupuzha. Sabarimala Temple
The Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple () is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Ayyappan, who is also known as Shasta (deity), Dharma Shasta and is the son of the deities Shiva and Mohini (female avatar of the god Vishnu). Hill Highway (Kerala)
The Thiruvananthapuram–Kasaragod Hill Highway or State Highway 59 (SH-59) is a proposed state highway in Kerala. Upon completion, it will be the longest highway in Kerala, extending from Nandarapadavu in Kasaragod district to Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram district, at a length of 1332.16 km. The highway will pass through 13 of the 14 districts, the exception being Alappuzha as that district is not part of the hilly ranges of Kerala. Thenmala Dam
The Thenmala Dam also known as Parappar Dam is part of the largest irrigation project in Kerala, India. It is built along Kallada River in Kollam district of Kerala. The reservoir is used for irrigation and power generation. The dam project started in 1960's under the Kallada Irrigation and Tree Crop development project. The foundation stone of the dam was laid by T. K. Divakaran on 26 January 1972. It was completed in 1986 and was commissioned on 26 May 1986 by K. Karunakaran along with Kallada Irrigation Project. The reservoir is now a part of Thenmala Ecotourism Project. Punalur
Punalur is a municipality in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It is the headquarters of the Punalur Taluk and Punalur Revenue Division. Kollam District
Kollam district (), (formerly Quilon district) is one of 14 List of districts in Kerala, districts of the state of Kerala, India. Vishu (Malayalam: വിഷു) is a Hindu festival celebrating the Malayali New Year in Kerala, Tulu Nadu, and Mahe of India. Vishu falls on the first day of the month of ''Medam'', the first month of the Solar calendar used in Malabar of Kerala, (April 14 or 15 in the Gregorian calendar), signifying the solar new year as the sun moves into the zodiac sign of Aries.
