Kuantan (Pahang Malay: ''Kontaeng''; Terengganu Malay: ''Kuatang/Kuantang'') is a city and the state capital of Pahang, Malaysia. It is located near the mouth of the Kuantan River. Kuantan is the Largest cities in Malaysia, 12th largest city in Malaysia based on a 2020 population of 548,014 and the largest city on the Peninsular Malaysia#Other features, East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The administrative centre of the state of Pahang was officially relocated to Kuantan on 27 August 1955 from Kuala Lipis, and was officiated by HRH Abu Bakar of Pahang, Sultan Abu Bakar Ri'ayatuddin Al Muadzam Shah, the Sultan of Pahang. The Kuantan District is a district in Pahang, Malaysia. Located in the north-east of Pahang, the district bordered Kemaman District of Terengganu on the north, South China Sea on the east, Jerantut District and Maran District on the west and Pekan District on the south. The Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque () is Pahang's state mosque. It is located in Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia. History It is named after the recorded Sultan Ahmad al-Mu’azzam Shah Ibni Almarhum Bendahara Sri Maharaja Tun Ali (23 May 1836 – 9 May 1914), who was the sixth Raja Bendahara of Pahang and the founder and first modern Sultan of Pahang that established Pahang's present regal family.
