Kuala Kubu
Kuala Kubu Bharu (also spelt Kuala Kubu Baru, Kuala Kubu Bahru or Kuala Kubu Baharu; abbreviated to KKB), is the district capital of Hulu Selangor District, Selangor, Malaysia. It is located north of Kuala Lumpur and from Shah Alam, the state capital. It serves as a gateway town to Fraser's Hill. In 1883, the Sungai Selangor dam broke, causing a massive flood. It swept away the entire town the second time it broke in 1926, except for Guan Yin Gu Si Temple and Al-Hidayah Mosque. Following the flood, the British then relocated the town to a higher elevation and began to rebuild the town. Originally the town was named Kuala Kubu, however after the flood happened, the town was then renamed Kuala Kubu Bharu or New Kuala Kubu in English. Charles Reade (8 June 1814 – 11 April 1884) was a British novelist and dramatist, best known for the 1861 historical novel ''The Cloister and the Hearth''. Life Charles Reade was born at Ipsden, Oxfordshire, to John Reade and Anne Marie Scott-Waring, and had at least four brothers. Thomas Gerrard (aviator)
Major Thomas Francis Netterville Gerrard (13 August 1897 – 14 July 1923) was a British World War I flying ace credited with ten aerial victories. He died following a post-war equestrian accident. Early life and background Gerrard was born in Malaysia, where his father Percy Netterville Gerrard (1870–1915) was a medical doctor of Anglo-Irish descent. His mother Alice Gerrard died while he was still young. By 1901 Thomas was living in his father's home city of Dublin with his grandmother, while his father married Clare Hoffman in May 1905. The 2024 Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was a by-election for the Selangor State Legislative Assembly seat of Kuala Kubu Baharu that was held on 11 May 2024. It was called following the death of incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong on 21 March 2024 of cancer. Lee had served as Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Kuala Kubu Baharu, serving since 2013 for three terms. It was the first Selangor state by-election since the 2023 Selangor state election. The last time Selangor had a by-election was during the 2019 Semenyih by-election. Democratic Action Party
The Democratic Action Party (DAP; ) is a social democracy, social democratic and Secularism, secular political party in Malaysia, sitting on the Centre-left politics, centre-left of the political spectrum.
