Ku Bon-chan
Ku Bon-chan ( or ; born 31 January 1993) is a South Korean Recurve bow, recurve archery, archer. He won an individual and a team gold medal at the 2016 Olympics and two team gold medals at the 2015 World Championships. Career He made his international debut at the Archery World Cup, 2014 Archery World Cup after having participated in numerous Asian competitions prior. Ku competed in the 2015 World Archery Championships – Men's individual recurve, individual recurve event, 2015 World Archery Championships – Men's team recurve, team recurve event, and 2015 World Archery Championships – Recurve mixed team, recurve mixed team event at the 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he took home gold medals in the team recurve event and recurve mixed team event. Gyeongju
Gyeongju (, ), historically known as Seorabeol (, ), is a coastal city in the far southeastern corner of North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Archery At The 2016 Summer Olympics
The archery events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were held over a seven-day period from 6 to 12 August. Four events took place, all were staged at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí. Competition format A total of 128 athletes, 64 women and 64 men, competed across the four events: the men's individual, women's individual, men's team and women's team. All four events were recurve archery events, held under the World Archery-approved 70-meter distance and rules. The competition started with an initial ranking round involving all 64 archers of each gender. Each archer would shoot a total of 72 arrows to be seeded from 1–64 according to their score. The ranking round was also used to seed the teams from 1 to 12, by aggregating the individual scores for the members of each team. 2015 World Archery Championships – Men's Individual Recurve
The men's individual recurve competition at the 2015 World Archery Championships took place from 27 July to 2 August 2015 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The reigning champion and world number one archer Lee Seung-yun was not selected for the South Korean team, so did not compete. The top 8 competitors, excluding those whose countries earned team qualifying spots in the team event, earned an individual qualifying spot for their country for the 2016 Summer Olympics. The men's individual recurve archery competition at the 2015 Summer Universiade was held in the International Archery Center, Gwangju, South Korea from July 4 to 8, 2015. 68 archers from 32 countries entered the competition. 2015 Summer Universiade
The 2015 Summer Universiade (), officially known as the XXVIII Summer Universiade () and also known as Gwangju 2015 () was a multi-sport event for student and youth athletes sanctioned by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), held in the city of Gwangju, South Korea. It took place from July 3 to July 14, 2015. Bid selection The cities of Edmonton, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Taipei, Taiwan; and Gwangju, South Korea were in initial contention for the Games. Edmonton previously hosted the 1983 Summer Universiade, and all the infrastructure built for those two events was in use and was part of the project, which gave the city a big advantage, but the subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 led the city to withdraw. This left only Gwangju and Taipei at the final phase. On May 23, 2009, FISU awarded the hosting rights to Gwangju. The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The former name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade was to be officially branded as the FISU World University Games. 2016 Archery World Cup
The 2016 Archery World Cup is the 11th edition of the international archery circuit organised annually by the World Archery Federation. The preliminary stage consisted of three legs instead of the usual four, to make room for the Archery at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Olympic archery tournament. The third leg was also the final Archery at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Qualification, Olympic qualification event. Competition rules and scoring The Compound bow, compound legs consisted of a 50 m qualification round of 72 arrows, followed by the compound round at 50 m on a 6-zone target face, using cumulative scoring for all individual, team and mixed competitions.
