Krystyna Panchishko
Krystyna Panchishko (born 3 June 1998) is a Ukrainian marathon swimmer. Career She competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics. She took up swimming in 2003 in Rubizhne, Ukraine. Her grandmother introduced her to swimming. In 2007, she with her family moved to live in Kyiv. From 2012 to the present day, her coach is Mariya Golub, a Ukrainian swimming and open water swimming coach. Since 2019, she also trained in Montpellier, France, with Philippe Lucas. She competed in pool swimming at the European junior championships in 2013 and 2014. Marathon swimming is a class of open water swimming defined by long distances (at least ) and traditional rules based in English Channel swimming. Unlike marathon foot-races which have a specifically defined distance, ''marathon swims'' vary in distance. However, one commonly used minimum definition is , the distance of the marathon swimming event at the Olympic Games. As in all open water swimming, tides, surface currents and wind-chop are major determinants of finish-times. FINA World Aquatics Championships
The FINA World Championships or World Aquatics Championships are the World Championships for aquatics sports: swimming, diving, high diving, open water swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo. They are run by FINA, and all swimming events are contested in a long course (50-metre) pool. The event was first held in 1973 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and is now held every two years. From 1978 to 1998, the World Championships were held every four years, in the even years between Summer Olympic years. From 2001 until 2019, the Championships have been held every two years, in the odd years. Due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the scheduling of both the Olympic Games and the Championships between 2019 and 2025 became somewhat erratic, with World Championships not taking place in Japan in 2021 to accommodate the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics, and then delayed again to 2023 because of pandemic-related issues in Japan. European Aquatics Championships
The European Aquatics Championships is the continental Aquatics championship for Europe, which is organised by LEN—the governing body for aquatics in Europe. The Championships are currently held every two years (in even years); and since 2022, they have included 5 aquatics disciplines: Swimming (long course/50m pool), Diving, Synchronised swimming, Open water swimming and High diving. Prior to 1999, the championships also included Water polo, which beginning in 1999 LEN split-off into a separate championships. The open water events are not held during the Olympic year.
