Kruger United F.C.
Kruger United are a South African soccer club that plays in the National First Division. They are based in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. History Kruger United were formed in 2023, after purchasing the SAFA Second Division status of Caroline FC. In their first season, they won the Mpumalanga stream in the 2023–24 SAFA Second Division, qualifying for the playoffs, where they reached the final, earning promotion to the 2024–25 National First Division. They were defeated 2-0 by Highbury in the final. Kruger appointed Vusi Mkhatshwa as head coach in February 2024. Mkhatshwa earned promotion with Kruger, the second time he had done so with a side from Mpumalanga, following Mbombela United's promotion in 2014–15. He retired at the end of the season. The club finished fifth in its first season in the National First Division, but experienced financial difficulties, with delays in paying player's salaries. National First Division
The South African Championship, officially known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest league of South African football after the South African Premiership. Both the South African Championship and South African Premiership are organised by the Premier Soccer League. Bushbuckridge
Bushbuckridge (also known as Mapulaneng) is the main town in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Ehlanzeni District Municipality, Ehlanzeni District, Mpumalanga, South Africa. It grew around a trading store that opened in 1884, and is named after the large herds of Cape bushbuck, bushbuck found here in the 1880s, and the prominent ridge in the southeastern part of the municipality. The SAFA Second Division (known as the ABC Motsepe League for sponsorship reasons, and previously the Vodacom League between 1998 and 2012, was founded in 1998 as the overall third tier of South African association football, football. 2023–24 SAFA Second Division
The 2023–24 SAFA Second Division (known as the ABC Motsepe League for sponsorship reasons) was the 26th season of the SAFA Second Division, the third tier for South African association football clubs, since its establishment in 1998. Due to the size of South Africa, the competition was split into nine divisions, one for each region. After the league stage of the regional competition is completed, the nine winning teams of each regional division entered the playoffs. Highbury F.C. from the Eastern Cape, and Kruger United from Mpumalanga qualified for the final, with both earning promotion to the 2024–25 National First Division. Highbury F
Highbury is an area of North London, England, in the London Borough of Islington. Highbury Manor Highbury was once owned by Ranulf, brother of Ilger, and included all the areas north and east of Canonbury and Holloway Roads. The manor house was by what is now the east side of Hornsey Road, near the junction with Seven Sisters Road. After the manor decayed, a new manor house was built in 1271 to the south-east; to differentiate it from the original manor and because it was on a hill, it was called Highbury, from which the area takes its name. The site for Highbury Manor was possibly used by a Roman garrison as a summer camp. During the construction of a new Highbury House in 1781, tiles were found that could have been Roman or Norman. Mbombela, formerly Nelspruit, is a city in northeastern South Africa. It is the capital of the Mpumalanga province. Located on the Crocodile River, the city lies about by road west of the Mozambique border, east of Johannesburg and north of the Eswatini border. Mbombela was one of the host cities of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. History San rock art and Iron Age archaeological evidence indicate the area has a long history of human habitation. The 2014–15 SAFA Second Division (known as the ABC Motsepe League for sponsorship reasons) was the 17th season of the SAFA Second Division, the third tier league for South African association football clubs, since its establishment in 1998. Due to the size of South Africa, the competition was split into nine divisions, one for each region. After the league stage of the regional competition was completed, the nine teams were placed into two 'streams', sometimes referred to as the Inland and Coastal streams.
