Kronan (Swedish: ''The Crown'') bicycles are marketed by Kronan Trademark AB, also known as Kronan AB. Kronan AB was established in June 1997 by three former-students, John Wahlbäck and the Avander brothers, Henry and Martin. In autumn 2003 the company was bought by the Brunstedt family with Mary Brunstedt as the company's current CEO. History Kronan began when John Wahlbäck sold wikt:surplus, surplus Military of Sweden, Swedish military Swedish military bicycle, m/42 bikes, to supplement his income as a student. They decided to manufacture a copy of this after selling all their original stock. Kronan bought the original drawings from the Ministry of Defence (Sweden), Swedish Ministry of Defense and commissioned a Taiwanese manufacturer to build bicycles to these specifications. Helkama Oy is a Finland, Finnish company and umbrella brand, operating several subsidiaries that focus on bicycles (Helkama Velox), Electrical cable, cables for ships and communications (Helkama Bica), household appliances and refrigerators (Helkama Forste), accessories and imports for Škoda Auto automobiles (Helkama-Auto), and automobile maintenance and import (Uuttera Oy). Monark, also known as Cykelfabriken Monark AB and Monark AB, is a Swedish bicycle, moped and motorcycle manufacturer, established in Varberg, Sweden, in 1908 by the industrialist Birger Svensson. As of 2016, Monark was valued at 11.5 billion kr. Company history In 1920, Monark produced its Esse model, which employed a British 172cc Villiers two stroke engine in a heavy bicycle frame. They gained popularity in Scandinavian countries because machines of this type were not required to be licensed, taxed or insured. In 1928, Monark hired Robert Ebe-Karlsson away from the Amal Carburettor Company to design a range of motorcycles using engines provided by the Blackburne motorcycle company.
