Kristaps Porziņģis
Kristaps Porziņģis (; born 2 August 1995) is a Latvian professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nicknamed "The Unicorn" for his ability to make plays and shoot 3-pointers as a Center (basketball), center, he is listed at and plays as a Power forward (basketball), power forward and center. Born in Liepāja, Porziņģis began his professional career with CB Sevilla, Sevilla in 2012. Porziņģis quickly rose through the team's youth ranks and became the figurehead of the senior team by 2013. Kristaps Zommers (born 7 January 1997) is a Latvian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Riga FC. Club career As a youth player, Zommers joined the youth academy of Aarhus Gymnastikforening in Denmark. He started his career with Parma. In the 2015-16 Serie D, Kristaps made 25 appearances and kept 17 clean sheets. Kristaps Valters (born September 18, 1981) is a Latvian former professional basketball player. After retiring he became a coach, and is currently working as a head coach for Valmiera/ORDO. Playing career Valters first played professionally in 1998, for ASK/Brocēni/LMT. In 2000, Valters signed his first foreign contract, with Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi, but played there only one season. He then returned to the Latvian Basketball League, signing a two-year contract with the newly created team Skonto. Kristaps Gulbis (born 26 July 1967) is a Latvian sculptor and artist known for numerous contemporary art projects in more than 25 countries. His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Modern Art in Hokaido, Japan, and at metropolitan sites in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Riga, Moscow and other European cities, as well as in New York, Seoul, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Kristaps Janičenoks (born 14 March 1983) is a retired Latvian professional basketball player who last played for VEF Rīga. He also played for the Latvian national basketball team. Playing career Janičenoks first gained attention as a high-scoring teenager at the 1999 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship. He was the second leading overall scorer at the tournament, averaging 23.5 points per game and was named to All-Tournament Team. Shortly after, he started his career in Latvian Basketball League with Brocēni. In 2001, after graduating from high school in Latvia, he received multiple offers from NCAA D1 schools, choosing George Washington as the place where he would play. Kristaps Zvejnieks (born 15 February 1992 in Riga) is an Alpine ski racer and inline Alpine slalom racer from Latvia. He competed for Latvia at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He competed in slalom and giant slalom and his best result was a 37th place in the slalom. He competes in FIS, CIT, EC and WC levels. He had his first World Cup start in Schladming on 24 January 2012. Alpine skiing career He was born to Jana Zvejniece and Raivo Zvejnieks in Riga, Latvia, and grew up there. Kristaps Helmanis (, ; 3 June 1848 – 2 March 1892) was a Latvian vaccinologist and microbiologist. He discovered tuberculin simultaneously with Robert Koch and mallein together with Oto Kalniņš (1891). Biography Helmanis was born on 3 June 1848 in Tērvete (then ''Hofzumberge'', Courland Governorate), received education at the parish school and Jelgava Real School (''Jelgavas reālskola''). He studied veterinary medicine at the Dorpat Veterinary Institute (''Kaiserliche Veterinair-Institut zu Dorpat'', 1873–1877) and received a gold medal for his work “On Development of Spermatozoids of Vertebrates”. After graduation he stayed at the institute for a degree of master of science he received in 1879. Kristaps Grebis (born 13 December 1980) is a Latvian former professional footballer who played as a forward. Club career Born in Liepāja, Grebis started his professional career in 2000 with Liepājas Metalurgs. Making seven appearances and scoring one goal in his first season, he later had a short spell with FK Rīga, returning to Liepāja in 2002. This time playing there for four consecutive seasons, in 2006 he left for Oxford United. Grebis had his contract with Oxford United cancelled by mutual consent in March 2007, as this period of his career was not the best.
