Kreyòl La
Kreyol La (often stylized as Kreyōl La) is a Haitian compas band. The group has performed throughout the world, most notably in the Caribbean, Canada, France and the United States through various concerts, carnivals, and festivals. History Kreyol La was founded in January 2005 after the disbandment of ''Konpa Kreyol''. When keyboardist David Dupoux started his own band with Mikaben called ''Krezi Mizik'', the rest of Konpa Kreyol led by Tjo Zenny became Kreyol La. Initially, Kreyol La was much less sophisticated than its predecessor, imploring a sound that was closer to the street culture of Port-au-Prince but paved the way for it in becoming a key contributor to the electronic scene of the ''New Generation'' of Compas. Pétion-Ville
Pétion-Ville (; ) is a commune and a suburb of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in the hills east and separate from the city itself on the northern hills of the Massif de la Selle. Founded in 1831 by president Jean-Pierre Boyer, it was named after Alexandre Sabès Pétion (1770–1818), the Haitian general and president later recognized as one of the country's four founding fathers. The district is primarily a residential and touristic area. It had a population of 283,052 at the 2003 Census, which was officially estimated to have reached 376,834 in 2015. Many diplomats, foreign merchants and wealthy people who engage in business reside in Pétion-Ville. 2010 Haiti Earthquake
The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic Moment magnitude scale, magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake that struck Haiti at 16:53 local time (21:53 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. The epicenter was near the town of Léogâne, Ouest (department), Ouest department, approximately west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital. By 24 January, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake. Death toll estimates range from 100,000 to about 160,000 to Haitian government figures from 220,000 to 316,000, although these latter figures are a matter of some dispute. Mikaben
Michael Benjamin (June 27, 1981 – October 15, 2022), better known as Mikaben, was a Haitian singer, songwriter and record producer. Life and career Michael Benjamin was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on 27 June 1981. He was the son of Haitian singer Lionel Benjamin. He began his career in 1999 in a Christmas contest televised special that was hosted every December called "Konkou Chante Nwel" where he won fifth place. Michael Benjamin was known as a producer, a singer, and a songwriter and dabbled in many Afro-Caribbean genres such as konpa, twoubadou, rap kreyol, soca, and reggae. Death On the night of 15–16 October 2022, Benjamin died during a concert at the Accor Arena in Paris. He was 41 years old. He suffered a cardiac arrest on stage during his performance.
