Koyambedu Junction
Koyambedu Junction, also called the Koyambedu Roundtana, is an important road junction in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is located north of the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus at the junction of the Inner Ring Road, Chennai, Inner Ring Road and the National Highway 4 (India, old numbering), Poonamallee High Road (NH4) in the Koyambedu area/locality. The junction is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project taken up under the National Highways Development Project. Grade separator An elevated Parclo interchange has been constructed by the National Highways Authority of India to decongest the junction which is heavily utilised by interstate buses. This design of parclo grade separator has three arms of the cloverleaf interchange. Parclo Interchange
A partial cloverleaf interchange or parclo is a modification of a cloverleaf interchange. The design has been well received, and has since become one of the most popular freeway-to-arterial interchange designs in North America. It has also been used occasionally in some European countries, such as Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Maduravoyal Junction
Maduravoyal Junction is an important junction in Chennai. It is located to the west of Koyambedu Junction at the intersection of National Highway 4 (India) (NH4) and Chennai Bypass. Maduravoyal Grade Separator A Cloverleaf interchange was constructed at this junction similar to the one in Kathipara Junction by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as part of the 4050-million Chennai Bypass project (Phase II). The construction of the flyover was completed in June 2010. The project was delayed because of the loose soil at the junction. It was rectified by erecting pillars. The flyover has four loops that coalesce in a clover-shaped structure. The loops are available for vehicles proceeding from Tambaram to Koyambedu, Poonamallee to Tambaram, Puzhal to Poonamallee, Koyambedu to Puzhal. Padi Junction
The Padi Lucas Junction is the intersection of NH 205 ( Madras-Tiruvallur High Road) and Inner Ring Road in the city of Chennai and is one of the most important junctions in the city. It is located in Anna Nagar north of Koyambedu Junction. An elevated rotary has been constructed at this junction as part of the NHDP by NHAI to ease the traffic congestion. It was built at a cost of 1,300 million and was opened for traffic on 20 February 2009. Grade separator The junction is used by hundreds of heavy vehicles and the road has a traffic density of about 200,000 passenger car units daily. As of 2014, more than 70,000 vehicles use the Padi flyover every day. To ease the congestion, the NHAI has constructed an elevated four-lane rotary at the junction. Poonamallee High Road
EVR Periyar Salai (SHU 86)(EVR High Road), earlier known as Poonamallee High Road ( NH 48) and originally the Grand Western Trunk Road, is an arterial road in Chennai, India. It is the longest road in Chennai. Running from east to west, the road starts at Muthuswamy Bridge near Madras Medical College at Park Town and ends near Maduravoyal Junction via Kilpauk, Aminjikarai, Anna Nagar Arch, Arumbakkam, Koyambedu. It further continues west towards Poonamallee and traverses the towns of Sriperumbudur, Walajapet, and Ranipet. Vijayakanth
Vijayaraj Alagarswami (25 August 1952 – 28 December 2023), known by his stage name Vijayakanth, was an Indian actor, filmmaker, philanthropist and politician. National Highways Development Project
The National Highways Development Project (NHDP) was a project of four laning of existing national highways and six laning of selected major national highways of India. The project was started in 1998 under the leadership of Prime Minister of India, Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. National Highway (India), National Highways account for only about 2% of the total length of roads, but carry about 40% of the total traffic across the length and breadth of the country. The Golden Quadrilateral (; abbreviated GQ) is a network of National Highway (India), national highways connecting major cities of India. Koyambedu
Koyambedu is a neighbourhood in Chennai, India. Situated in the western part of Chennai city, the Koyambedu area has become a major hub of activity in Chennai after the inauguration of the Koyambedu market in 1996 and the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in 2002. The area is active round the clock owing to the movement of people and goods through the day, with uninterrupted transport facilities such as long-route buses, autos, share autos, vegetable goods carriers and so forth. Etymology The name of the neighbourhood comes from ''ko'' meaning horse, ''ambu'' meaning arrow, and ''pedu'' meaning fence, when Lava and Kusha caught the horse sent by Rama in a fence made of arrows.
