Korçë (; sq-definite, Korça) is the List of cities and towns in Albania, eighth most populous city of Albania and the seat of Korçë County and Korçë Municipality. As of 2014, there were 74 cities classified as urban areas and 2,972 villages as rural areas in Albania. Korçë County (), officially the County of Korçë (), is a Counties of Albania, county in the Southern Albania, Southern Region of the Republic of Albania. Iljaz Bej Mirahori
Iljaz Bej Mirahori () was an Ottoman Albanian military commander and governor, who served sultan Bayezid II. He founded the town of Korçë in Albania in the 15th century, participated in the Conquest of Constantinople and built the Monastery of St John the Studite there as a mosque. Biography Iljaz was born in Panarit, Korçë District and entered janissary service probably during the reign of Murad II. He had three sons: Muhammed, Inebey and Sefershah. He was one of the most loyal subjects of the young emperor Mehmet II, and dedicated his life to the service of the Emperor against Skanderbeg and his forces. In the year 1453, Iljaz Hoxha's role in the Siege of Constantinople earned him the title ''Mirahor'' (General of Cavalry). Later he received the ''Mirahor Evel'' title (Head General). The Resurrection of Christ Cathedral of Korçë () is the main Albanian Orthodox Church, Albanian Orthodox church in Korçë, Albania. A previous cathedral in Korçë named after St. George was destroyed by the Communist authorities in 1968. Vithkuq
Vithkuq () is a village and a former municipality in the Korçë County, southeastern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Korçë. The population at the 2011 census was 1,519. The municipal unit consists of the villages Vithkuq, Leshnje, Gjanc, Lubonjë, Rehovë, Roshanj, Trebickë, Grabockë, Treskë, Stratobërdh, Panarit, Shtyllë and Cemericë. Iljaz Mirahori Mosque () is a historic mosque in Korçë, Albania. History The mosque was built in 1494 and finished in 1496 by Iljaz Hoxha (also known as Iljaz Bey Mirahori), who was a veteran of the Istanbul Conquest and the city-founder of Korçë. Boboshticë (; , ''Boboshtitsa''; , ''Boboštica'') is a village in the former Drenovë Municipality of the Korçë County in southeastern Albania. Pustec (; ) formerly known as Liqenas (1973–2013), is a village in Pustec Municipality, Korçë County, eastern Albania. Situated on the southwestern shore of Lake Prespa, it is home to much of the Macedonian minority in Albania. Geography Pustec is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Prespa and is the nearest village to the island of Maligrad. It sits at an elevation of above sea level.
