Salih Korkmaz (born 1 January 1997) is a Turkish racewalking athlete. In 2017, he finished in 4th place in the men's 20 kilometres walk at the 2017 European Athletics U23 Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Representing Turkey at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, he placed fifth in 20 kilometres walk. He won the silver medal at the 2019 European Athletics U23 Championships held in Gävle, Sweden. Furkan Korkmaz (born 24 July 1997) is a Turkish professional basketball player for BahçeÅŸehir Koleji of the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL). Ümit Korkmaz (; born 17 September 1985) is a retired Austrian footballer who played as a winger. He is currently the manager of Ostbahn XI. Mert Zeki Korkmaz (born 16 August 1971) is a retired Turkish footballer. Early life Korkmaz was born in 1971. He is the younger brother of Bülent Korkmaz, a football player. Career Korkmaz played as a defender, and was known for his fighting spirit and professional approach to the game. A product of Galatasaray S.K.'s youth system, Mert played there from 1993 to 1997. He went on to represent Kocaelispor, Gaziantepspor, Malatyaspor and İstanbul BüyükÅŸehir Belediyespor, retiring in 2008. Korkmaz was capped five times by Turkey. Mahsum Korkmaz
Mahsum Korkmaz, also known as Agit (Kurmanji: Egîd; Sorani: عەگید) (1956 – 28 March 1986), was the first commander of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)'s military forces. Korkmaz moved to Lebanon in 1979 and alongside Kemal Pir was responsible for the recruitment across Turkey. He is known to have led the 15 August 1984 PKK attacks which was the start of the PKK's armed rebellion for Kurdish independence. He was killed by Turkish forces on 28 March 1986. The PKK's main training facility during the 1980s and early 1990s, the Mahsum Korkmaz Academy, which was located in Beqaa Valley in Lebanon was named after him. Today, Mahsum Korkmaz is honored in the form of many commemoration days by the Kurdish Movement. Race walking, or racewalking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Race judges carefully assess that this is maintained throughout the race. However, if there is an argument between referee, a replay video must be reviewed to judge accordingly. Typically held on either roads or running tracks, common distances range from up to 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). The current race walking contests at the Summer Olympics are the 20 kilometres race walk (men and women) and the marathon race walk mixed relay, the latter of which debuted at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
