The Korean Red Cross, fully the Republic of Korea National Red Cross (), is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief and education inside South Korea. It is the designated South Korean affiliate of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Emperor Gojong
Gojong (; 8 September 1852 – 21 January 1919), personal name Yi Myeongbok (), later Yi Hui (), also known as the Gwangmu Emperor (), was the penultimate List of monarchs of Korea, Korean monarch. He ruled Korea for 43 years, from 1864 to 1907, first as the last king of Joseon, and then as the first Korean imperial titles#Joseon, emperor of the Korean Empire from 1897 until his forced abdication in 1907. The Red Cross Society of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK RCS; ) is the national Red Cross Society of North Korea. It was founded as the Red Cross Society of North Korea on 18 October 1946 by the Soviet-backed occupational government. It was admitted into the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) on 11 May 1956. This admittance had a great symbolic importance, as the North Korean regime remained outside most international organizations for decades. Sampoong Department Store Collapse
On June 29, 1995, the Sampoong Department Store (; Hanja: 三豐百貨店) in Seocho District, Seoul, South Korea collapsed due to a Structural integrity and failure, structural failure. The collapse killed 502 people and injured 937, making it the largest List of man-made disasters in South Korea, peacetime disaster in South Korean history.
