Kopervik Church
Kopervik Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Karmøy Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the town of Kopervik on the eastern shore of the island of Karmøy. It is the church for the Kopervik parish which is part of the Karmøy prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The glass and concrete church was built in a rectangular design in 2017 using designs by the architectural firm: Arkitektgruppen Lille Frøen AS. The church seats about 500 people. History The people of the Kopervik area historically went to church at Avaldsnes Church, but as the area gained population, a desire for a church in Kopervik grew. In 1855, the community received permission to build a church. The original Kopervik Church was built in 1861 by the architect Jacob Wilhelm Nordan. That church was consecrated on 2 October 1861. Karmøy is a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is southwest of the town of Haugesund in the traditional district of Haugaland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Kopervik. Most of the municipality lies on the island of Karmøy. The island is connected to the mainland by the Karmøy Tunnel and the Karmsund Bridge. It is known for its industries, as well as for fishing. Ivar Braut
Ivar Braut (born 1956) is a Norwegian theologian and priest. He was the Bishop of the Diocese of Stavanger from 2017 to 2019. He is considered to be a conservative bishop, a contrast to his predecessor. Personal life Ivar Braut was born on 28 February 1956 in Sandnes, Norway. He is married to Turid Bakke and together they have three grown children and six grandchildren. Education and career He received his Cand.theol. degree from the MF Norwegian School of Theology. He was ordained on 21 June 1981 at Gand Church by the Bishop Sigurd Lunde. His first job was the vicar of Søndre Skøyen in Oslo. From 1982 to 1987, he was a chaplain at Fossum Church in Oslo. Then in 1988, he moved to Grimstad to teach theology at the Grimstad Bible School. He worked there until 1991 when he moved to Trondheim to work at the Ilen Church as a chaplain. Jacob Wilhelm Nordan
Jacob Wilhelm Nordan (23 February 1824 – 11 April 1892) was a Danish-born, Norwegian architect. During his career, he was one of the most prolific church architects in Norway. Biography Nordan was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and came to Norway as a child with his mother. He attended the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Drafting School (''Den Kongelige Tegneskole'') in Christiania (now Oslo), where Johannes Flintoe, Christian Heinrich Grosch and Johan Henrik Nebelong were among his teachers. From 1849 to 1852, Nordan worked under architect Johan Henrik Nebelong as assistant and building manager during the construction of Oscarshall. From 1852 to 1855, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and received travel grants to Bavaria and Austria.
