Koothali Nair
The Koothali (also spelt Kuttali, Kûtali, and Koodali) Moopil Nair or Moothavar, most commonly known as the Koothali Nair and styled Vallabhan Chathan, additionally known as the Koothali Payyormala Nayar and as Vazhunnavar, historically held and controlled an eponymous sthanam, principality and sthanam of North Malabar Coast, Malabar, with his hereditary seat in Koothali. Towns and lands subject to the Koothali Moothavar's rule traditionally included Perambra, Changaroth, Cheruvannur Nallalam, Cheruvannur, Kuttiady, and adjacent regions, including Kottathara. The Koothali Nair was traditionally one of Malabar's most prominent Naduvazhis, a Moopil Nair and Vazhunnor, Vazhunnavar, as well as a major Jenmimar, and held the Nair caste rank of Nambiar (Nair subcaste), Nambiar or Samanta, and the family style of Tharavad, swaroopam. Perambra 1981
Perambra is a major town in Koyilandy taluk of Kozhikode district in North Malabar region of Kerala state, India. Perambra is the anglicized form of the original name 'Payyormala' from the British rule. It is one of the 140 assembly constituencies in Kerala, and one of the 12 block Panchayati raj in India, Panchayats in Kozhikode district. Perambra lies almost at the centre of the district. The area which was formerly known as Payyormalanadu, eventually became Perambra.It is located 22 km from Vatakara, Vadakara,13 km from Kuttiady, Kuttiadi and 38 km from Kozhikode.Perambra is situated in the slopes of the Western Ghats. Demographics As of the 2011 census of India, Perambra had a population of 32,784. Perambra has an average literacy rate of 95.5%,higher than the national average of 74%.
