CleanCo Queensland is a corporation owned by the Queensland Government in Australia. CleanCo owns and operates a range of electricity generation assets in Queensland, including run-of-the-river and pumped-storage hydroelectricity, gas-fired power plants, grid-scale solar farms and wind farms. The Queensland Government has a long-term ambition to generate 50 per cent of the state’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030. CleanCo was established in 2018 to manage those facilities. The Kareeya Hydro Power Station near Tully in Queensland, Australia is a hydroelectric power station that began generating power in 1957. It has a capacity of which is fed into the National Electricity Market. The power station is owned by CleanCo Queensland. Taking its name from the Aboriginal word meaning 'big water', the Kareeya Hydro project originally comprised construction of Koombooloomba Dam, the Tully Falls Weir and Kareeya Hydro power station. A dam was needed for water storage because most of the rain in the area falls in the first few months of the year. An intake tower is located in the weir, which directs water down a tunnel to the turbines in an underground power station below Tully Falls.
