Kollel Ohr Yosef
Kollel Ohr Yosef is an institute of rabbinic study in Ontario, Canada, serving the Thornhill and northern Toronto communities. As a "community kollel", its faculty engages in advanced study and also reaches out to the community by offering free informal sessions and religious guidance, literally on a constant basis. The open-door institute also hosts all conventional prayers, including holiday services. The Kollel is recognized as a place where one can drop in spontaneously to connect with friendly and knowledgeable scholars. It aims to permit the Torah to speak with its original, authentic voice. The faculty's energy is devoted especially to religious engagement and the dissemination of scholarship. The Kollel's widespread financial support is purely voluntary. Kollel
A kollel ( he, כולל, , , a "gathering" or "collection" f scholars is an institute for full-time, advanced study of the Talmud and rabbinic literature. Like a yeshiva, a kollel features shiurim (lectures) and learning ''sedarim'' (sessions); unlike most yeshivot, the student body of a kollel typically consists mostly of married men. A kollel generally pays a regular monthly stipend to its members. History Original sense Originally, the word was used in the sense of "community". Each group of European Jews settling in Israel established their own community with their own support system. Each community was referred to as the "kollel of " to identify the specific community of the Old Yishuv. The overwhelming majority of these Jews were scholars who left their homelands to devote themselves to study Torah and serve God for the rest of their lives. Thornhill is a suburban district in the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario, Canada, split between the City of Vaughan (its western portion) and the City of Markham (its eastern portion), with Yonge Street forming the municipal boundary. Shlomo Miller
Shlomo Eliyahu Miller is a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah (Council of Torah Sages). He is a Rosh Kollel (dean) and co-founder of the Kollel Avreichim Institute for Advanced Talmud Study, a haredi post-yeshiva educational institution in Toronto and head of its Beis Din (Rabbinical court). He is the foremost Litvish Haredi Posek (decisor of Rabbinic law) in Toronto. Miller is the head of the Beis Din of the Va'ad Harabonim of Lakewood (Association of Rabbis) of Lakewood, NJ and heads a Kollel there as well. He is a close friend of Avraham Bromberg. Miller is a strong opponent of any weakening of the rule of Halakha, Halacha (Rabbinic law). Personal life Rabbinic history Miller learned in the Talmudical Academy of Baltimore and was a close talmid (student) of Rav Aaron Kotler. Beth Medrash Govoha ( he, בית מדרש גבוה, Sephardi pronunciation: ''Beth Midrash Gavoha''. lit: "High House of Learning"; also known as Lakewood Yeshiva or BMG) is a Haredi Jewish Lithuanian ''yeshiva'' in Lakewood Township, New Jersey.
