Kokuga
is a shoot 'em up game released by G.rev in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. It was directed by Hiroshi Iuchi, famous for his seminal shmups Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. Unlike many worldwide releases, the game wasn't released in Canada and the developer was only notified that they would not be able to, late in the preparation process. Gameplay The game puts the player in command of a tank that must shoot enemies in succession. Development and release The game was released in North America, excluding Canada, in June 2013, and July 2013 in Europe. The developer was surprised by the failure to release in Canada and did not know if, or when, it would release there. Reception ''Kokuga'' received positive reviews from critics upon release. Hiroshi Iuchi
is a Japanese graphic designer and composer who is widely known for his work at the game development studio Treasure. He started his career by joining Konami in 1989 where he worked on a number of arcade titles. In 1992, Iuchi and a number of Konami employees including Masato Maegawa and Norio Hanzawa splintered away from the company to form Treasure. His first game for the new company was the critically acclaimed Gunstar Heroes. In 1995, Iuchi left Treasure to join Time Warner Interactive but soon left due to disagreements with the company's business practices. He was re-hired by Treasure in 1997 where he worked on his first project as a director, Radiant Silvergun. Despite a new string of successes including ''Ikaruga'' and ''Gradius V'', Iuchi once again left Treasure in 2006. Metacritic is a website that aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations. It is regarded as the foremost online review aggregation site for the video game industry. Metacritic's scoring converts each review into a percentage, either mathematically from the mark given, or what the site decides subjectively from a qualitative review. Ikaruga
is a shoot 'em up developed by Treasure. It is the spiritual sequel to '' Radiant Silvergun'' (1998) and was originally released in Japanese arcades in December 2001. The story follows a rebel pilot named Shinra as he battles an enemy nation using a specially designed fighter called the Ikaruga which can flip between two polarities, black and white. This polarity mechanism is the game's key feature and the foundation for its stage and enemy design. All enemies and bullets in the game are either black or white. Bullets which are the same color as the player are absorbed while the others will kill the player. The game features both single-player and cooperative modes. Development on ''Ikaruga'' began during director Hiroshi Iuchi's off-hours while Treasure was busy developing '' Sin and Punishment'' (2000).
