Walter Kohn
Walter Kohn (; March 9, 1923 – April 19, 2016) was an Austrian-American theoretical physicist and theoretical chemist. He was awarded, with John Pople, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1998. The award recognized their contributions to the understandings of the electronic properties of materials. In particular, Kohn played the leading role in the development of density functional theory, which made it possible to calculate quantum mechanical electronic structure by equations involving the electronic density (rather than the many-body wavefunction). This computational simplification led to more accurate calculations on complex systems as well as many new insights, and it has become an essential tool for materials science, condensed-phase physics, and the chemical physics of atoms and molecules. Yetta Kohn
Yetta Kohn (March 9, 1843 – April 24, 1917) was a German-American immigrant who came to New Mexico and became a businesswoman, rancher, and ferry operator. After her husband died in 1877, Kohn operated the family's wool and hide business. She became a real estate investor and a cattle rancher. The T4 Cattle Company ranch, which has remained a family business, in Montoya, New Mexico has become one of the largest private ranches in the United States. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round (409th overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft after playing college baseball at the College of Charleston. Howard Louis Kohn (November 8, 1861–November 2, 1933) and Clara (McGowan) Kohn (November 20, 1899–March 7, 1988) were New Mexican businesspeople and ranchers of T4 Cattle Company, one of the largest private ranches in the United States with about 220,000 acres. Arnold Kohn
Arnold Kohn (21 May 1905 – 16 November 1984) was a Croatian Zionist, longtime president of the Jewish community Osijek and Holocaust survivor. Biography Kohn was born in Dobrovac, near Lipik, to a Jewish Orthodox Zionist family on 21 May 1905. His family was engaged in grocery store trade. In 1905 Kohn moved to Osijek with his family. During World War II, in 1942, Kohn and his family were deported to Auschwitz from their home in Tenja, near Osijek. While at Auschwitz, inmate number "62178" was tattooed onto his arm. Kohn survived the Holocaust while all members of his immediate family (mother, brothers and sisters) perished in the Nazi concentration camps. After his return from Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp in 1945 Kohn was physically and mentally exhausted, on the verge of death. Hans Kohn, (September 15, 1891 – March 16, 1971) was an American philosopher and historian. He pioneered the academic study of nationalism, and is considered an authority on the subject. Life Kohn was born into a German-speaking Jewish family in Prague, Bohemia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After graduating from a local German Gymnasium (high school) in 1909, he studied philosophy, political science and law at the German part of Charles-Ferdinand University in Prague. Shortly after graduation, in late 1914 Kohn was called into the infantry of the Austro-Hungarian Army. Following training he was sent to the Eastern Front in the Carpathian Mountains, facing the Imperial Russian Army. He is the head football coach for Siena Heights University, a position he held on an interim basis in 2016 and full-time since 2017.
