''Koh-Lanta'' is a French reality game show based on the international ''Survivor'' format. The series premiered on August 4, 2001. The show is broadcast on TF1 and there have been 22 regular seasons and 7 special seasons. The show has been hosted by Denis Brogniart since the second season. The title of the show Thai "Ko Lanta" (roughly translated as "the island of a million eyes") - not only is this a reference to the televised nature of the competition (with millions of viewers watching the show) but the title is also the name of filming location of the first season ( Ko Lanta Yai, Thailand). Following the basic premise of other international versions of the ''Survivor'' format, it features a group of contestants who are marooned in an isolated location, where they must provide food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves. ''Survivor'' is a reality competition, reality-competition television franchise produced globally. The show features a group of contestants deliberately marooned in an isolated location, where they must provide basic survival necessities for themselves. The contestants compete in challenges for rewards and immunity (reality television), immunity from elimination. The contestants are progressively eliminated from the game as they are voted out by their fellow contestants until only one remains to be awarded the grand prize and named the "Sole Survivor". Denis Brogniart (; born 12 June 1967 in ) is a French people, French sport journalist and television host. He presents the show ''Koh-Lanta'' since 2002 and Formula One racing on TF1 with Marion Jollès Grosjean. Personal life Denis Brogniart was born on 12 June 1967, in Dijon. His mother was a professor of mathematics and his father was a banking executive and held a doctorate in law. He has two brothers: François and Gilles Brogniart. After a scientific baccalaureate at the Lycée Louis Pergaud in Besançon, he tried for a year and a half to go to medical school. He gave up and started working as a lifeguard and animator at Club Med in Spain and as an SB instructor in Port-des-Barques (with the city of Chennevières). Ko Lanta Yai
Ko Lanta Yai () is an island in the Strait of Malacca off the west coast of Thailand, between the Phi Phi Islands and the mainland. It is administratively part of Krabi Province, most of which is on the mainland. Together with neighboring Ko Lanta Noi, which forms the Ko Lanta archipelago, and several other islands, it forms the amphoe of Ko Lanta District. Toponymy Ko Lanta was once known by its Malay name, "Pulao Satak", which means "Long Beach Island". The Pearl Islands (Spanish: Archipiélago de las Perlas or Islas de las Perlas) is a group of 200 or more islands and islets (many tiny and uninhabited) lying about off the Pacific coast of Panama in the Gulf of Panama.
