Klek Mountain, Croatia
Klek is mountain in north-western Croatia, near Ogulin in Karlovac County. It is the easternmost mountain of the Velika Kapela range of the Dinaric Alps. The mountain is one of the best-known Croatian botanist reserves and home to a number of protected species of mountain flora. According to the 17th century tale, during the nights of storm, the summit of Klek is a midnight gathering point for witches and fairies. In the early 20th century, Klek's east and south face nurtured numerous Croatian rock climbers. The longest route length exceeds 200 m, with difficulty up to 5.12a. Klek is a peninsula in the Adriatic Sea located southwest of Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It encloses the Bay of Neum, separating it from the larger Bay of Mali Ston and the Pelješac peninsula. At the cape of peninsula, a few hundred meters from the shore, is a small islet as part of a reef consisting series of bare rocks appearing under the water table ( sh, hrid, hridina). Klek (; german: Hahnkogel), also known as ''Petelin'' or ''Petelinjek'' to locals from the villages on the Slovene side below its summit, is a peak in the Western Karawanks, between Golica/Kahlkogel to the east and Dovška Baba (German: ) to the west. It lies on the border between Slovenia and Austria above the town of Jesenice. On the northern side towards Carinthia the peak itself is very steep and mostly composed of brittle rock and scree, and is accessible from Rosenbach on the Austrian side only via Rožca Saddle.
