Kiwi (band)
Kiwi () is a girl group from Mongolia. The group initially consisted of Ulambayar, Namuun, and Enkhzol. The band was a personal project by producer Angirmaa. The band has had a total of 6 different members during its 20-year run. The two permanent members during all its iterations were Uka and Namuun. They made their debut with their first album "Khuslee Khelne" in 2006. The group was named the "Best Band" in 2013. As of 2019, the only active member of the band is Ulambayar. She has gone on to release six solo albums, "I am in love", "11.06", "Khugjim", "Don't Stop", and "Do it". Kiwi is widely regarded as the best modern girl group in Mongolia since "Lipstick", and "Emotion". Girl Group
A girl group is a music act featuring several female singers who generally harmonize together. Uka (singer)
Davaagiin Ulambayar ( mn, Даваагийн Уламбаяр; born 6 November 1982), known professionally as Uka ( mn, Ука), is a Mongolian singer, actress, and TV personality. Born into a family of eight, she first gained attention as a member of a girl group " Kiwi" in 2004. With her trademark blonde hair, and unorthodox dance moves, she was often the face of the group. After her band went inactive in 2014, she pursued a solo career. She has since released four studio albums, "I am in love" (2015), "11.06" (2015), "Hug-Jim" (2017), and "Don't Stop" (2018). Uka was one of the four judges in the first season of a Mongolian talent show, "The Voice of Mongolia", alongside Otgonbayar, Bold, and Ononbat. The eventual winner, Enguun Tseyendash, was selected from her team, "Team Uka". Her single, "Don't Stop", was included in the "Asian Top Hip Hop" album in 2018. Lipstick (band)
Lipstick (, Uruuliin budag) is a Mongolian all-female band. Lipstick's music varies between melodic pop songs, R&B, and pumping disco beats. They were formed on March 1, 1999. The next year they won the Pentatonic award, a national rock and pop music award, as the best debut band. Since then they have received several other prominent awards for their work and were very successful with the younger generation in Mongolia from 1999 to 2002. They all sing and play instruments such as keyboard, solo guitar, bass guitar and drums. They also used traditional instruments such as the Shanz (a 3-stringed plucked musical instrument) and the Yatga (a kind of zither) for their music, e.g. in the songs Khüree khüükhnüüd 'City ladies' and Sarnai tsetseg 'Rose'. As of 2007, the band is inactive, but still widely considered one of the representative Mongolian pop bands. Ulaanbaatar Broadcasting System ( mn, Улаанбаатар телевиз), or UBS, is a television broadcaster in Mongolia. It operates three channels, UBS which is the main channel, UBS Global and UBS Music Channel. It is currently owned by Balkhjav Lkhagvadorj and Bayar J. History UBS Television, formerly known as Ulzii Television, was founded by Ulaanbaatar City Administration and first aired on 15 September 1992. In 2002, City Council became the new owner.
