Kiran Chandra Roy
Kiran Chandra Roy is a Bangladeshi Baul folk singer. In 1997, he won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer and the BACHSAS Best Singer Award for his performance in the film '' Dukhai''. He is also a lyricist and music composer. Background and education Roy took formal music lessons from Khandaker Nurul Alam for 14 years. He took part in the first Bangladesh folklore workshop. Baul
The Baul () are a group of mystic minstrels of mixed elements of Sufism and Vaishnavism from different parts of Bangladesh and the neighboring Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam's Barak Valley and Meghalaya. Bauls constitute both a religious syncretism, syncretic religious sect of troubadours and a musical tradition. Bauls are a very heterogeneous group, with many sects, but their membership mainly consists of Vaishnavism, Vaishnava Hindus and Sufism, Sufi Muslims. They can often be identified by their distinctive clothes and musical instruments. Lalon, Lalon Shah is regarded as the most celebrated Baul saint in history. Although Bauls constitute only a small fraction of the Bengali population, their influence on the culture of Bengal is considerable. Khandaker Nurul Alam (1937 – 22 January 2016) was a Bangladeshi music composer and singer. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Music Director for the films ''Chandranath'' (1984), '' Shuvoda'' (1986), and ''Padma Meghna Jamuna'' (1991). The University of Dhaka (), also known as Dhaka University (DU), is a public university, public research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Jagannath University (JnU) () is a public university located in Sadarghat, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Founded as ''Dhaka Brahma School'' in 1858 and renamed ''Jagannath School'' in 1872, and later renamed ''Jagannath College'' in 1884, the institution was taken over by the Pakistani government in 1968, while Bangladesh was still a part of Pakistan.
