Kino (band)
Kino (, ) is a Russian Rock music, rock band formed in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in 1981. The band was co-founded and headed by Viktor Tsoi, who wrote the music and lyrics for almost all of the band's songs, until his death in 1990. Over the course of eight years, Kino released over ninety songs spanning over seven studio albums, as well as releasing a few compilations and live albums. During the days of the Soviet Union, the band's music was also widely circulated in the form of bootleg recordings through the underground magnitizdat distribution scene. Viktor Tsoi died in a car accident in 1990. Shortly after his death, the band broke up after releasing their Black Album (Kino album), final album, consisting of songs that Tsoi and the group were working on in the months before his death. ''46'' is the second studio album by the Soviet rock band Kino. It was recorded in 1983 at the AnTrop studio and released on 12 December 1983. The album consisted of demos of songs written by the band's singer, Viktor Tsoi. It was largely dismissed by Tsoi as a "rehearsal tape" for '' Nachalnik Kamchatki'', with many of the songs in ''46'' being used in the later album. Despite this, fans viewed it as the band's second album. The band has never recognized it as a legitimate album. Reception Neil Davidson of AllMusic described the album as a "bunch of lo-fi demos, mainly recorded with very little or no accompaniment beyond the odd half-hearted overdub," and gave it a two-star rating. Bard (Soviet Union)
The term bard ( rus, бард, p=bart) came to be used in the Soviet Union in the early 1960s, and continues to be used in Russia today, to refer to singer-songwriters who wrote songs outside the Soviet establishment, similarly to folk singers of the American folk music revival. Because in bard music songwriters perform their own songs, the genre is also commonly referred to as author song (, ''avtorskaya pesnya'') or bard song (, ''bardovskaya pesnya''). Bard poetry differs from other poetry mainly in being sung with simple guitar accompaniment, as opposed to being spoken. Another difference is that it focuses less on style and more on meaning. This means that fewer stylistic devices are used, and the poetry is often in the form of a narrative. Vsevolod (Seva) Yakovlevich Gakkel' (; born 19 February 1953) is a Russia, Russian Rock music, rock musician, who played cello in the band Aquarium (band), Aquarium. Gakkel founded the club Tamtam (rock club), TaMtAm and was the art director of the club in Saint Petersburg. Biography Early years Vsevolod Gakkel was born on 19 February 1953 in Saint Petersburg, Leningrad. His father, Yakov Gakkel, Yakov Yakovlevich Gakkel, was a prominent Soviet oceanographer, and his paternal grandfather, Yakov Modestovich Gakkel, was an inventor and aircraft designer. He attended music school from a young age, learning to play the cello. As a teenager, he became interested in The Beatles. In eighth grade, he played bass in his school's beat group, Vox. Aquarium or Akvarium (; often stylized as Åквариум) is a Russian rock group formed in Leningrad in 1972. The band is considered one of the founders of Russian rock. Aquarium has had many line-up changes over its history, and lead singer and founder Boris Grebenshchikov is the only remaining original member. Former band members include Anatoly Gunitsky, Mikhail Feinstein, Andrei "Dyusha" Romanov, Vsevolod Gakkel, and Sergey Kuryokhin. Boris Borisovich Grebenshchikov (; born ) is a prominent member of the generation which is widely considered to be the "founding fathers" of Russian rock music. He is the founder and lead singer of the band Aquarium which has been active since 1972. Grebenshchikov is frequently referred to as BG (; pronounced "Beh-Geh"), after his initials. Early years (1953–1979) Grebenshchikov was born on 27 November 1953, in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg. In 1972, he founded the band Aquarium with his childhood friend Anatoly "George" Gunitsky as a postmodern theatrical endeavor that included poetry and music. Grebenshchikov was accepted into Leningrad State University. Due to his musical activities, he started missing exams and failing classes.
