King Of Bands
''King of Bands'' is a compilation album from American hardcore punk and speed metal band, Gang Green. It was released in December, 1991 on Roadrunner Records and contained two newly recorded tracks from two-fifths of the line up who had appeared on the previous album. Josh Pappe had got married and was replaced by Kevin Brooks on bass. Fritz Ericson had retired and was replaced by Mike Lucantonio on guitar. Brian Betzger left to start a pool hall and was replaced in a touring capacity by Walter Gustafson – the drummer in the band who left in 1984. Gustafson left before this album and was replaced once again, by Brian Betzger. The material is evenly gleaned from previous albums: three tracks from ''Another Wasted Night'', two from ''You Got It'', two from the EP ''I81B4U'', and three from their last studio album, '' Older... Gang Green
Gang Green is an American punk rock band originally from Braintree, Massachusetts. Chris Doherty (guitar), Bill Manley (bass) and Mike Dean (drums) started the band in 1980 and broke up in 1983. Doherty reformed Gang Green the following year, and the band experienced numerous lineup changes until its dissolution for the second time in 1992. Doherty has been the band's only constant member and has kept Gang Green active from 2005 onwards. The band was influential in the formation of the East Coast hardcore punk scene, and went on to become one of the forerunners of crossover thrash and speed metal in the late 1980s. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. Crossover thrash (often abbreviated to crossover) is a fusion genre of thrash metal and hardcore punk. The genre lies on a continuum between heavy metal and hardcore punk. Other genres on the same continuum, such as metalcore and grindcore, may overlap with crossover thrash. Roadrunner Records is an American record label focused on heavy metal and hard rock bands. Founded in the Netherlands in 1980, it is now a division of Warner Music Group and is based in New York City. History The label was launched in 1980 in the Netherlands. Roadrunner's initial business was importing North American metal-band recordings into Europe. Can't LIVE Without It
''Can't LIVE Without It'' was the only live album release from American hardcore punk/speed metal band, Gang Green. It was recorded at The Marquee Club in London, UK on February 25, 1990, and was released by Roadrunner Records later that year. It features one line up change from their previous two albums – Josh Pappe had joined from fellow crossover thrash band, D.R.I., to replace Joe Gittleman who had been fired shortly after the release of the studio album, '' Older... Budweiser'', in 1989. After finishing a headline tour of Europe, of which this material was a part, Fritz Ericson retired, Josh Pappe got married, and long-term drummer, Brian Betzger decided to start a pool hall. Far from finishing the band, Chris Doherty assembled some replacements, including Walter Gustafson who had left the band in 1984 – only to be replaced by Betzger again seven months later. ''Back & Gacked'' was an EP released by American hardcore punk band, Gang Green. It was released on May 6, 1997 on Taang Records. It marked the band's first recordings in over five years – the last being two new tracks which were included in the compilation album, ''King of Bands'' in December, 1991. The EP saw the return to the independent Taang Records label which had launched their career back in 1983 and also saw the return of drummer Walter Gustafson who had last appeared on ''Another Wasted Night'' in 1984. Speed Metal
Speed metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the late 1970s from new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) roots.K. You Got It (album)
''You Got It'' was the second full-length album from Boston, Massachusetts hardcore punk/speed metal band, Gang Green. It was released in 1987, a year after their previous release, ''Another Wasted Night'', in 1986. It was their first for a major record label – Roadrunner Records – after leaving independent punk label, Taang. Chris Doherty and Brian Betzger were the only surviving members from the previous album. Joe Gittleman replaced Glen Stilphen on bass, and Fritz Ericson replaced Chuck Stilphen on lead guitar after "a major dispute". The brothers had since formed a band of their own called Mallethead. ''I81B4U'' was an EP from Boston hardcore punk / speed metal band, Gang Green. It was released in 1988, after the previous year's debut for Roadrunner Records, '' You Got It'' and before 1989's release, '' Older... Budweiser''. The title is a reference to Van Halen's album, ''OU812'' released in the same year. I81B4U translates phonetically to "I Ate One Before You". Overview This EP shows the band's musical style as an intermediate point between hardcore punk and speed metal – also known as crossover thrash. Sing-along choruses and distinguished riffs combined with proficient guitar solos are trademarks of both of the former subgenres.
