Kinef Kirishi
Kinef-Surgutneftegaz (russian: КИНЕФ-Сургутнефтегаз) is a Russian professional men's and women's water polo club from Kirishi owned by Kinef and Surgutneftegaz. The women's club was founded in the 1993–94 season as Fakel. In the 1996–97 season the club was renamed Kinef. Since 2003, receiving its current name Kinef-Surgutneftegaz, the Russian club emerged in the mid-2000s as the leading team in Russia, dominating the Russian Championship in subsequent years. Russian Women's Water Polo Championship
The Russian Women's Water Polo Championship is the premier championship for women's water polo clubs in Russia. Founded in 1992 following the breakup of the Soviet Union, it is currently contested by ten teams. Kinef Kirishi is the competition's most successful team, having won its last 19 editions. Kirishi
Kirishi (russian: Ки́риши, ) is a town and the administrative center of Kirishsky District in Leningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Volkhov River, southeast of St. Petersburg. Population: It was previously known as ''Soltsy'' (until 1931). Etymology The name of the town originates from the Kirisha River (previously known as Kiresha), a tributary of the Volkhov River. History It was first mentioned in 1693. Since 1727, it was a part of Novoladozhsky Uyezd of Novgorod Governorate, later of St. Petersburg Governorate. In 1922–1923, the uyezd was renamed Volkhovsky. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Kinef ( rus, КИНЕФ), an abbreviation for Kirishi Petroleum Organic Synthesis ( rus, Киришинефтеоргсинтез, Kirishinefteorgsintez), is a Russian joint stock production association operating a large oil refinery based in Kirishi, Leningrad Oblast. It is a subsidiary of Surgutneftegaz. The Kirishi refinery is the only one in Northwestern Russia. History Construction of the refinery had begun in 1961 in an area devastated by World War II. 2011–12 LEN Women's Champions' Cup
The 2011-12 LEN Women's Champions' Cup is the ongoing 25th edition of LEN's competition for women's water polo national champion clubs. Thirteen teams from England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Russia, Serbia and Spain entered the competition. The Women's LEN Trophy is LEN's second-tier competition for women's water polo clubs. It was first held in 2000 as the LEN Women's Cup Winners' Cup. It was contested for many seasons by around 15 teams, which could qualify for it either directly due to high ranking in their domestic league or by being eliminated at certain stages of the Champions' Cup. After the last reformations in the European competitions system by LEN, only four teams contesting for the trophy, coming after elimination at that season's LEN Euro League quarterfinals stage.
