Kimmo Pohjonen
Kimmo Pohjonen (born August 16, 1964) is a Finnish accordionist who is known for his avant-garde and experimental work with his custom-made electrified and modified instrument. He has released nine albums of his work and has toured Europe extensively, as well as performances in Japan and some in North America. He records and performs both solo and in collaboration with musicians and other artists, including the Kronos Quartet, and percussionist Pat Mastelotto and guitarist Trey Gunn of King Crimson. Pohjonen still lives in Finland when not on the road. He has performed with one of his daughters, Saana, who plays the drums. Accordion
Accordions (from 19th-century German language, German ', from '—"musical chord, concord of sounds") are a family of box-shaped musical instruments of the bellows-driven free reed aerophone type (producing sound as air flows past a Reed (mouthpiece), reed in a frame). The essential characteristic of the accordion is to combine in one instrument a melody section, also called the descant, diskant, usually on the right-hand keyboard, with an accompaniment or Basso continuo functionality on the left-hand. Arto Järvelä
Arto Järvelä (born in 1964 in Hattula, Finland) is a Finnish violin, fiddler and composer. Because of the many groups and projects he is involved in, he has been called "the busiest man in Finnish folk music". He is primarily a violinist, but among other instruments of his are nyckelharpa, mandolin and kantele. Arto Järvelä is the fourth generation of the well known Järvelä fiddler family, whose musical roots belong in the rural area close to the small town Kaustinen. As a ten-year-old, he started to play the drum kit, drums and bass guitar in a family band, together with his father. He got serious on the fiddle at about 13 years of age. He played the Pump organ, harmonium (pump organ) in a band of youngsters called ''Järvelän pikkupelimannit'' (the small fiddlers from the Järvelä village) until he got good enough on the fiddle to join the group as a fiddler. Uniko
''Uniko'' is a composition by Finnish musicians Kimmo Pohjonen and Samuli Kosminen, which was commissioned by the Kronos Quartet in 2003. It was first performed in 2003. The composition has seven parts, and combines accordion, strings, and vocals. A version of it was recorded in 2007, and released in 2011. Performances ''Uniko'' premiered in 2004 and was also performed in 2007 in New York City at the BAM NEXT WAVE festival, and in 2012 at Colours of Ostrava. A 2013 performance at the Barbican Centre in London was criticized by John Allison, writing for ''The Daily Telegraph'', for being "an utterly mediocre easy-listening show". Green Linnet Records was an American independent record label that specialized in Celtic music. Founded by Lisa Null and Patrick Sky as Innisfree Records in 1973, the label was initially based in Null's house in New Canaan, Connecticut. In 1975 the label became Innisfree/Green Linnet and Wendy Newton joined Null and Sky as operating officer. In 1976 Newton took over control of the now Green Linnet label and moved it to Danbury, Connecticut in 1985. Newton became sole owner in 1978. Ottopasuuna
Ottopasuuna was a Finnish folk music ensemble that mixed their country's traditional music with forms from elsewhere in Europe, played with unconventional instruments. History Ottopasuuna was formed in the early 1990s by Petri Hakala (mandolin, octave mandolin, guitar, fiddle), Kurt Lindblad (flute, bagpipe), Kimmo Pohjonen (accordion), and Kari Reiman (fiddle; also a member of Värttinä). By 1994, Lindblad had been replaced by Kristiina Ilmonen (whistles, flute, Irish flute) and Janne Lappalainen (bass clarinet, bazouki). Samuli Kosminen
Edea is a Finnish musical group. The Edea's song lyrics are written in an older form of the Finnish language and speak of old traditions as well. The mysterious runic symbols inscribed on the bows of Viking boats, door posts, drinking vessels, and amulets as well as the Finnish composer Sibelius are the source of Edea's music.
