Kilnhurst F.C. was an English association football club based in Kilnhurst, South Yorkshire. History The club was founded in 1877, its first competitive football coming in the Hallamshire Cup in 1880–81. The club had a successful 1890–91 season, winning the Sheffield & District League, going through the season unbeaten at home, and only losing 2 of its 14 league matches and finishing the season with nearly £8 cash in hand. It had a fierce rivalry with Mexborough, one match in 1893 at Kilnhurst resulting in criminal proceedings, as when a fight broke out between players, a spectator climbed over a 2' 6" wire fence to join in, and provoked a general mêlée that took 20 minutes to clear; the original spectator was fined 10s . The Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup is a county cup competition involving teams within the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Football Association. Sheffield & District Football League
The Sheffield & District Football League was an English association football league based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and surrounding area. History The league was founded in time for the 1889/90 season, being one of the first ever league competitions. The first season was not completed, with Kilnhurst becoming the first champions in 1891. Chesterfield Town, a forerunner of the present Chesterfield F.C, won the 1892 title, and Wednesday Wanderers, the reserve team of Sheffield Wednesday, lifted the shield in 1893. The 1893/94 competition saw the league split into two divisions of five, with the two group winners, Wednesday Wanderers and Mexborough, meeting in a play-off to decide the title winners, with the Mexburians winning the game 1-0 at Oakwell. The 1894/95 competition was again split in two, with the six strongest teams being placed into the top division, with the winners Mexborough being awarded the Wharncliffe Charity Cup. The Sheffield Association League was an English association football league based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. History The league was founded in 1897 to fill the void left by the disbandment of the Sheffield & District Football League, which had run from 1889 to 1895. It soon established itself as the foremost league competition for non-league clubs in the south of Yorkshire. In 1960 the league was renamed the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League. Kilnhurst
Kilnhurst is a village in South Yorkshire, England, on the banks of the River Don and the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation. It grew up around the coal mining, ceramics, glass, brick-making and locomotive industries; none of these industries remain in the village. Residents The sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger was born in the village in 1885, followed by his painter brother David in 1891. They were the sons of a colliery manager. Charles was famous for a number of war memorials commemorating the First World War, such as the Royal Artillery Memorial (1925) which stands at Hyde Park Corner in London, while David was famous for his portrait of Robert Baden-Powell.
