Kilmorack Gallery
Kilmorack Gallery reuses a converted church building for its exhibitions, in a rural location near Beauly in Inverness-shire, Scotland. It was established as a commercial gallery in 1997 after the building was purchased by art dealer Tony Davidson, believing that inspirational art could sit in an inspirational building just as well as in a white cube. By putting on consistently ambitious solo and mixed shows of some of the country's finest artists and sculptors, Kilmorack Gallery has established itself as one of Scotland's leading contemporary art galleries. The success of non-urban, destination galleries like Kilmorack 'has made "remote" more than ever a relative term', wrote art critic Duncan Macmillan of the Scotsman. Laurence Broderick
Laurence Broderick, , is a British sculptor. His best known work is 'The Bull', a public sculpture erected in 2003 at the Bull Ring, Birmingham. ''The Bull'' is about 4.5 meters long, about 190 cm high and weighs about 6.5 tons. It is one of the largest bronze animal sculptures in the country. His work consists largely of figurative carvings in stone and editions in bronze. Early life Broderick was born in Bristol, in the west of England, in 1935, and attended Bembridge School on the Isle of Wight. He studied painting, illustration and sculpture under Ray Millard and Geoffrey Deeley at the Regent Street Polytechnic from 1952 to 1957, and with Sidney Harpley and Keith Godwin at the Hammersmith School of Art from 1964 to 1965. Historic Environment Scotland (HES) ( gd, Àrainneachd Eachdraidheil Alba) is an executive non-departmental public body responsible for investigating, caring for and promoting Scotland's historic environment. George Wyllie
George Ralston Wyllie MBE (31 December 1921 – 15 May 2012) was a Scottish artist. Wyllie produced a number of notable public works, such as the Straw Locomotive and the Paper Boat. Life Wyllie was born in Shettleston, in the east end of Glasgow, and grew up in Craigton, in the south-west of the city. He was educated at Bellahouston Academy and Allan Glen's School. He later resided in Gourock. He worked as a customs officer before taking up art. He described himself as a "scul?tor". Wyllie's ''Straw Locomotive'' consisted of a full size steam locomotive, constructed from straw, and suspended from the Finnieston Crane, by the River Clyde in Glasgow. The sculpture was built at the former locomotive works at Springburn, and suspended from the crane for several months during 1987, before being taken back to the Springburn site and ceremonially burnt. Pinkie Maclure
Pinkie Maclure (born 1966) is a Scottish stained glass artist and musician. Her work has been purchased by the National Museum of Scotland. Biography Maclure grew up in rural Scotland, taking up stained glass later in life. She initially worked with her partner to restore and conserve historic stained glass, and later began creating her own work. Maclure's lightboxes are recognisable for both their technical experimentation and their mix of personal, social and environmental storytelling. Critics note that her work moves stained glass away from a decorative approach and back towards its medieval story telling roots. Janette Kerr
Janette Kerr (b. 1959) is a British painter of land and seascapes. Janette Kerr served as the president of the Royal West of England Academy from 2011 to 2016 and then became a visiting research fellow in Fine Art at the University of the West of England. Kerr is an Honorary Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture Academician. From 1980 to 1993, Kerr taught as a full-time lecturer in painting, printmaking and drawing at the City of Bath College. In 2005 Kerr completed a PhD in Fine Art at the University of West England. Janette Kerr is known for her paintings of the far North and High Arctic including the Shetland Isles, Ireland, Norway and Iceland and works en-plein-air. Lotte Glob
Lotte Glob (born 1944) is a Danish ceramic artist living in the north of Scotland. She is daughter of Peter Glob. Life Lotte Glob was born in 1944 on Samsø, a Danish island, the daughter of Peter Glob, a Danish archaeologist. She grew up in Aarhus and aged 14 became an apprentice to Danish ceramist Gutte Eriksen. Later she was taught by 'Knud Jensen in Denmark' working in a '8 generations traditional slipware pottery'. 'Asger Jorn and the COBRA artists' were an early influence on her work. In 1963, aged 19, Glob moved to County Cork, Ireland. She worked in Ireland, Scotland, France and travelled extensively, 'exploring landscapes in Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden' and cityscapes in 'New York, Barcelona, Stockholm and Helsinki.' Steve Dilworth
Steve Dilworth was born in Yorkshire in 1949 and studied sculpture at Maidstone College of Art. Since 1983, he has lived and worked on the Isle of Harris, Scotland. Dilworth is known for his use of 'once living and found material, often held inside outer forms of wood, bone, stone and bronze. He also incorporates elements drawn directly from land and seascape, such as calm water, storm water, mountain air, the North wind and darkness. These are elements gathered at a particular time and place, in an exacting way that sit right on an edge between concept and material, the physical and metaphysical. Sharmanka Kinetic Gallery
The Sharmanka Kinetic Gallery is a theatre of kinetic sculpture, in Glasgow, Scotland. The museum features mechanical figures which perform shows. It is a collaboration between sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky, theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya, and light and sound designer Sergey Jakovsky.
