Killing Pablo (book)
''Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw'' (2001) is a book by Mark Bowden that details the efforts by the governments of the United States and Colombia, their respective military and intelligence forces, and Los Pepes to stop illegal activities committed by Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and his subordinates. It relates how Escobar was killed and his cartel dismantled. Bowden originally reported this story in a 31-part series published in ''The Philadelphia Inquirer'' and in a companion documentary of the same title. Documentary ''The True Story of Killing Pablo'' (2002) is a companion documentary film to Bowden's 2001 book. It was produced by Wild Eyes Productions for The History Channel. Film A feature film adaptation was being developed by producers Bob Yari and Mark Gordon, to be directed and written by Joe Carnahan, but the film's producer, Yari, filed for bankruptcy in 2008. Mark Bowden
Mark Bowden (; born 1951) is an American journalist and writer. He is a former national correspondent and longtime contributor to ''The Atlantic''. Bowden is best known for his book ''Black Hawk Down (book), Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War'' (1999) about the 1993 U.S. military raid in Mogadishu, which was later adapted into Black Hawk Down (film), a motion picture of the same name that received two Academy Awards. Bowden is also known for the books ''Killing Pablo, Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw'' (2001), about the efforts to take down Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, and ''Hue 1968'', an account of the Battle of Huế. Mark Richard Gordon (born October 10, 1956) is an American producer. He is a former president of the Producers Guild of America. In January 2018, Gordon was named president and chief content officer of film and television for Entertainment One, which had acquired his production company, The Mark Gordon Company. Early life and education Gordon was born on October 10, 1956 in Newport News, Virginia. He is of Jewish descent. He is a graduate of New York University Film School. Javier F. Peña (born 1958) is an American former Drug Enforcement Administration agent who investigated Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel. Peña worked as a consultant on the Netflix series '' Narcos''. Biography Peña was raised in Hebbronville, Texas, and graduated from Hebbronville High School. He attended Texas A&M University where he studied sociology and psychology. Stephen E. Murphy (born 1957) is an American retired federal agent of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) who, along with Javier Peña, was one of the lead investigators in the manhunt of Colombian drug lord and leader of the Medellín Cartel, Pablo Escobar. The story of this was told in the Netflix series '' Narcos'', with actor Boyd Holbrook portraying Murphy. Murphy and Peña also worked on the show as consultants.
