Kill The Vultures (album)
''Kill the Vultures'' is the debut album by Minnesota alternative hip hop group Kill the Vultures. It was released in 2005 by Jib Door. Kill the Vultures was a spinoff of hip-hop quintet Oddjobs, consisting of four of its five members who had moved home to Minnesota from California after Oddjobs' breakup. Taking a new artistic direction from Oddjobs' more mainstream rap sound, Kill the Vultures pursued riskier material influenced by film noir and jazz. Reception Christopher Weingarten of ''CMJ New Music Monthly'' compared the album favorably to Tom Waits' ''Real Gone'', calling it a "dark, brooding mess that clatters with the clanking toys stolen from the Bone Machine." Kill The Vultures
Kill the Vultures is an American hip hop group from Minneapolis, Minnesota formed in 2005. A duo consisting of rapper Alexei "Crescent Moon" Casselle and producer Stephen "Anatomy" Lewis, the group was a spinoff of mid-2000s group Oddjobs. Kill the Vultures released a self-titled debut album in 2005 and other albums into the 2010s, most recently 2015's ''Carnelian''. It was named 2005's Best Hip-Hop Artist by Minneapolis alt-weekly ''City Pages. Building on the European success of Oddjobs, Kill The Vultures built a fanbase and positive critical attention from music critics in France, Italy, and other European countries. ''The Careless Flame'' is the second album by Minnesota alternative hip hop group Kill the Vultures. It was released in 2006 by Jib Door. French music critic Sylvain Bertot placed ''The Careless Flame'' 101st in his list of the 150 most important indie hip-hop albums. History Rapper Alexei "Crescent Moon" Casselle and producer Stephen "Anatomy" Lewis, who had spun off Kill the Vultures as a quartet from their earlier hip-hop group Oddjobs, were by this point the sole remaining members of the band. Oddjobs
Oddjobs was an alternative hip hop group from Minnesota formed in 1995. The band released three studio albums and several EPs including 2003's critically praised ''Drums;'' it broke up in 2004 and the members re-formed as Kill the Vultures and Power Struggle. History Oddjobs was a quintet consisting of three rappers—Advizer (Adam Waytz), Crescent Moon (Alexei Casselle), and Nomi (Mario Demira)—and two producer/DJs—Anatomy (Stephen Lewis) and Deetalx (Devon Callahan). The group was part of a regional hip-hop subculture based in the Twin Cities which developed in the mid-1990s and included Atmosphere and the Rhymesayers collective, Eyedea & Abilities, Doomtree, Heiruspecs, and Brother Ali. ''City Pages'' was an alternative newspaper serving the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. It featured news, film, theatre and restaurant reviews and music criticism, available free every Wednesday. It ceased publication in 2020 due to a decline in ads and revenue related to the COVID-19 pandemic. History On August 1, 1979, publishers Tom Bartel and Kristin Henning debuted ''Sweet Potato'', a monthly newspaper focused on the Twin Cities music scene. The first issue featured pop band The Cars on the cover. In October 1980, ''Sweet Potato'' went biweekly. On December 3, 1981, the newspaper went weekly and was renamed ''City Pages''.
