Unwound
Unwound () is an American post-hardcore band formed in 1988 in Tumwater and Olympia, Washington. It presently consists of vocalist-guitarist Justin Trosper, bassist Jared Warren, drummer Sara Lund, and guitarist Scott Seckington. Originally founded by Trosper, bassist Vern Rumsey and drummer Brandt Sandeno under the name "Giant Henry," Sandeno was replaced in 1992 by Lund who performed on their debut album in 1993. Largely based in Olympia throughout the 1990s, the trio consisting of Lund, Trosper, and Rumsey recorded seven albums, plus numerous singles, and toured relentlessly until the band's dissolution in 2002. Often classified as noise rock in addition to post-hardcore, Unwound played a sharply dissonant and angular style that made use of unusual guitar tones, and garnered attention locally for their relentless touring schedules, favour towards "all ages" venues and their strong DIY ethics. ''Leaves Turn Inside You'' is the seventh and final studio album by the American post-hardcore band Unwound, released on April 17, 2001 by Kill Rock Stars. The album received critical acclaim from several music publications, both contemporarily and after its original release, following later reissues by Numero Group. Marking the return of original drummer and co-founder Brandt Sandeno who had switched to keyboards and guitar, it is the band's only studio album to feature all four members. Background and recording Unlike previous Unwound albums, ''Leaves Turn Inside You'' was recorded in 2000 by the band members at their own built studio, MagRecOne ("Magnetic Recording One"), in Olympia, Washington. ''Rat Conspiracy'' is a compilation of recordings by the post-hardcore band Unwound. It features the ''Fake Train'' and ''New Plastic Ideas'' albums along with an extra disc of live recordings, songs from singles, and demos from the recording sessions of their respective albums. It was released on March 18, 2014 by The Numero Group as the second of a four-album reissue series. History Unwound formed in 1988 and broke up in 2002. In 2013, it was announced that Chicago-based archival record label The Numero Group were going to remaster and reissue the band's full discography, it's centerpiece being four boxsets separated by albums. The title of the boxset was the original title for ''Fake Train''. One version of Rat Conspiracy included an extra disc of demos of ''Fake Train'' songs, entitled ''Faked Train''. ''Unwound'' is the fourth studio album by the American post-hardcore band Unwound, released on August 28, 1995. It was the first album recorded by the band and was originally intended to be their debut, but was eventually pushed back three years later. Trouser Press called the album "one of their best". Background and Recording Recorded in May 1992, ''Unwound'' wasn't released until August 1995, at which point Unwound had already recorded and released three other albums on Kill Rock Stars. "Kandy Korn Rituals" and "Against" (the latter of which is unlisted and attached to "Kandy Korn Rituals" on this album) were previously released on a 7" by Kill Rock Stars in 1992, along with a live song called "Hating in D". The Numero Group
The Numero Group is an archival record label that creates compilations of previously released music, reissues original albums, and creates album reconstructions from a variety of musical genres. The label, known as Numero, was founded in 2003 by Rob Sevier, Ken Shipley (a former A&R manager for the equally eclectic Rykodisc label), and Tom Lunt. The label's focus since founding has been to research and preserve obscure recorded material and ephemera by artists and entrepreneurs who found little commercial success upon their material's initial release.
