"Kick in the Eye" is a song by English gothic rock band Bauhaus. It was released in 1981 as one of two singles released along their second studio album, ''Mask'' (1981) and was released the following year as an EP titled ''Kick in the Eye (Searching for Satori E.P.)''. Release "Kick in the Eye" was released on 27 March 1981 as a single from the band's second studio album, ''Mask'' (1981). It reached number 59 in the UK Singles Chart. "Kick in the Eye" was rereleased in February 1982 in EP form, titled ''Kick in the Eye (Searching for Satori E.P.)''. This version contains an audibly different mix, where the guitar is significantly louder. The EP reached number 45 in the same chart. Bauhaus (band)
Bauhaus are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. Known for their dark image and gloomy sound, Bauhaus are one of the pioneers of gothic rock, although they mixed many genres, including dub reggae, dub, glam rock, psychedelic music, psychedelia, and funk. The group consisted of Daniel Ash (guitar, saxophone), Peter Murphy (musician), Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band formed under the name Bauhaus 1919, in reference to the first operating year of the German art school Bauhaus, but they shortened this name within a year of formation. Their 1979 debut single "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is considered one of the harbingers of gothic rock music and has been influential on contemporary goth culture. ''British Hit Singles & Albums'' (originally known as ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles'' and ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums'') was a music reference book originally published in the United Kingdom by the publishing arm of the Guinness breweries, Guinness Superlatives. Later editions were published by HIT Entertainment (who had bought the Guinness World Records brand). It listed all the singles and albums featured in the Top 75 pop charts in the UK. In 2004 the book became an amalgamation of two earlier Guinness publications, originally known as ''British Hit Singles'' and ''British Hit Albums''. ''Mask'' is the second studio album by English gothic rock band Bauhaus. It was released on 16 October 1981 by record label Beggars Banquet. Content Bauhaus expanded their style a bit on ''Mask'', particularly by incorporating keyboards and acoustic guitar on songs such as "The Passion of Lovers", and funk rhythms and saxophone on tracks like "Kick in the Eye", "Dancing" and "In Fear of Fear". The album cover is a drawing by guitarist Daniel Ash. The original artwork for the album was a gatefold sleeve with blue text on the inside and a stark black-and-white image of the band. On later editions this inside was replaced with white text and a montage from the promotional video for the song "Mask". Release ''Mask'' was released in October 1981 by record label Beggars Banquet.
