HIT Entertainment Limited (stylised as HiT) was a British-American entertainment company founded in 1982 as Henson International Television, the international distribution arm of The Jim Henson Company, by Jim Henson, Peter Orton, and Sophie Turner Laing. Orton alone took over the company in 1989 after learning Henson intended to sell the company to The Walt Disney Company. HIT owned as well as distributed children's television series such as ''Thomas & Friends'', ''Fireman Sam'', ''Bob the Builder'', ''Pingu'', ''Barney & Friends'', and ''Angelina Ballerina (TV series), Angelina Ballerina''. HIT Entertainment was one of several partner companies alongside NBCUniversal, PBS, and Sesame Workshop that founded Universal Kids, PBS Kids Sprout; many of HIT's shows aired on the channel as a result. ''Angelina Ballerina'' is a British animated preschool children's television series based on the ''Angelina Ballerina'' series of children's books by author Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig. The series is produced by HIT Entertainment with animation production by Grand Slamm Children's Films, and aired on CITV for two seasons from 2001-2003, with three direct-to-video specials following afterward. The series centres on a young mouse named Angelina Mouseling who loves dancing ballet, her family, and her classmates. ''Barney & Friends'' is an American children's television series created by Sheryl Leach targeted at children ages two to five. The flagship production of the ''Barney'' franchise, it originally aired on PBS under the PBS Kids brand from April 6, 1992 to November 2, 2010, although new videos were still released on various dates after the last episode aired. ''Pingu'' is a stop motion animated children's television series originally produced in Switzerland. It was co-created by Otmar Gutmann and Erika Brueggemann. It centres on the titular anthropomorphic emperor penguin and his family, who live in the South Pole. The series aired on SF DRS for four series from 7 March 1990 to 9 April 2000, and was produced by the Swiss animation studio Pingu Filmstudio; with Swiss toy company Editoy AG, and later on, Pingu BV handling IP ownership of the series. The series has been popular outside of Switzerland, particularly in the United Kingdom and Japan, in part due to its lack of a real spoken language. ''Bob the Builder'' is a British animated children's television series created by Keith Chapman for HIT Entertainment which ran from to in the United Kingdom through the CBBC strand and later CBeebies. The series centres on the adventures and escapades of a general contractor named Bob who owns a team of anthropomorphised construction vehicles that go about their day helping out with construction work in several towns. The show used stop-motion animation for most of the series as well as ''Project: Build It'', provided by Hot Animation in Manchester. The series changed to CGI animation in 2010 for its final two seasons; titled ''Ready, Steady, Build!'', of which SD Entertainment completed animation production.
