Kibera Soccer FC
Kibera Soccer FC is a football club based in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya. The Kibera Soccer Women's FC is the first women's club from informal settlements to qualify for the Kenyan Women's Premier League. The women’s and men’s teams compete weekly and participate in community services with collaborating NGOs, partner schools, and health centers. Kibera Soccer FC Kibera Soccer FC was established in 2014 after several boys approached the coaching staff of Kibera Girls Soccer Academy, requesting training. The newly formed team initially participated in tournaments throughout Kibera until 2016, when they registered to compete in the Football Kenya Federation Sub-County League, the lowest tier of the professional Kenyan football leagues. CFK Africa
CFK Africa (previously Carolina for Kibera) was founded in 2001 by Rye Barcott, Salim. Mohamed, and the late Tabitha Atieno Festo. CFK Africa is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the informal settlement of Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, and is registered as an NGO in Kenya and a 501(c)(3) in the US. CFK Africa empowers youth in slums. Philosophy CFK's philosophy is grounded in participatory development. As a registered nonprofit in the U.S. and a registered NGO in Kenya, CFK Africa is led by its executive director, Jeffrey Okoro, who reports to a joint board of directors composed of both Kenyan and American volunteers. The Kenyan Women's Premier League is the top tier women's football league in the Kenyan football league system. It is controlled by the Football Kenya Federation. History The first women's football league in Kenya has been created in 1985. In 2010 no league was running any more because of financial problems.
