Khor Maksar (Br.Eng. əˈmæksə �ɔːɾˈmaksaɾ is a district of the Aden Governorate, Yemen. As of 2003, the district had a population of 47,044 inhabitants. History As part of Aden Colony, Khor Maksar was a military base for the British forces who built multiple barracks in the area. Its importance strengthened further after the Royal Air Force moved to the district in 1927. They constructed airports and some military camps to accommodate the Air Force soldiers. After World War II, Khor Maksar was planned and built according to the modern English style with all the necessary facilities. Furthermore, the Military Airport was renovated and a new airport was constructed, which is known today as Aden International Airport. This was followed by the construction of several wooden houses, some of which consisted of two floors, and some other one-story English-style houses and the construction Elizabeth II Hospital, which was a hospital in Aden. RAF Khormaksar
Royal Air Force Khormaksar or more simply RAF Khormaksar is a former Royal Air Force station in Aden, Yemen. Its motto was "Into the Remote Places". During the 1960s, it was the base for nine squadrons and became the RAF's busiest-ever station as well as the biggest staging post for the RAF between the United Kingdom and Singapore. It later became Aden International Airport. History Established in 1917, RAF Khormaksar was enlarged in 1945. No. 8 Squadron RAF arrived in 1927, and stayed until 1945, operating the Fairey IIIF, Vickers Vincent, Hawker Demon, Martin Maryland, Fairey Swordfish, and the Lockheed Hudson. Aden International Airport
Aden International Airport is an international airport in Aden, Yemen and the oldest airport in the Arabian peninsula. Prior to its use as a civil air facility, the aerodrome was known as RAF Khormaksar, which opened in 1917 and closed as an RAF station in 1967. Aden Governorate
Aden ( ) is a governorate of Yemen, including the city of Aden. At the 2004 census, it had a population of 589,419. The ancient capital, the port city of Crater, was located here. Aden was under British rule in the period from 1839 to 1967. In 1967, after years of struggle, Aden and other southern regions gained their independence. The city of Aden became the capital of South Yemen between 1967 and 1990. In 1990, both South Yemen and North Yemen combined to form the present Republic of Yemen. Aden Colony () was a crown colony of the United Kingdom from 1937 to 1963 located in the southern part of modern-day Yemen. It consisted of the port city of Aden and also included the outlying islands of Kamaran, Perim and the Khuria Muria archipelago with a total area of .
