Khizi Rayon
Khizi District () is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. Located in the east of the country, it belongs to the Absheron-Khizi Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Siyazan, Shabran, Quba, Shamakhi, Gobustan, and Absheron-Khizi. Its capital and largest city is Khizi. As of 2020, the district had a population of 17,100, making it the least populated district of Azerbaijan. Etymology Azerbaijanis and Tats compose the main ethnic background of Khizi. There are preconceptions about the etymology of the word "Xızı" which was previously used to represent a small village. Many experts assume that this name is from the Sassanid Empire. In the early Middle Ages (3rd–4th centuries), the Iranian tribes were transferred here to spread the Zoroastrianism, the official religion of the Empire, in northern territories of the empire, to combat Christianity and protect the northern borders from Hun, Peach and Khazar tribes. Goat Antelope
The subfamily Caprinae, also sometimes referred to as the tribe Caprini, is part of the ruminant family Bovidae, and consists of mostly medium-sized bovids. East Caucasian Tur
The East Caucasian tur (''Capra cylindricornis''), also known as the Daghestani tur, is a mountain-dwelling caprine living in the eastern half of the Greater Caucasus mountains, in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and European Russia. It inhabits rough mountainous terrain, where it eats mainly grasses and leaves. It is listed as near threatened on the IUCN Red List. Description East Caucasian turs are goat-like animals with large but narrow bodies and short legs, and show significant sexual dimorphism in overall size and horn development. Altyaghach National Park
Altyaghach National Park () — is a national park of Azerbaijan. It was established on an area of in the Khizi Rayon and Siazan Rayon administrative districts on August 31, 2004. It is about 120 km away from the capital Baku. It was founded with the aim of restoring the rich diversity of flora and fauna in the region. Most of the park is covered with deciduous forests. Candy Cane Mountains
The Candy Cane Mountains () are shale mountains in the Khizi and Siyazan districts of Azerbaijan, part of the Greater Caucasus mountain range.
