Kharan District
Kharan district (; ) is a district in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. Administration Demographics Population As of the 2023 census, Kharan district has 35,843 households and a population of 260,352. The district has a sex ratio of 115.79 males to 100 females and a literacy rate of 41.07%: 51.78% for males and 29.36% for females. 107,876 (41.43% of the surveyed population) are under 10 years of age. 80,806 (31.04%) live in urban areas. Religion In the 2023 census, 4,480 (2.05%) people in the district were from religious minorities, mainly Hindus. Language At the time of the 2023 census, 91.24% of the population spoke Balochi and 8.5% Brahui as their first language. Education According to the Pakistan District Education Rankings 2017, district Kharan is ranked at number 110 out of the 141 ranked districts in Pakistan on the education score index. Kharan (princely State)
The State of Kharan () was an autonomous princely state in British India covering what is part of the present-day province of Balochistan, Pakistan, Balochistan, in the southwest of Pakistan. On 17 March 1948, Kharan acceded to Pakistan and on 3 October 1952 it joined the Baluchistan States Union. The state was dissolved on 14 October 1955 when most regions of the western wing of Pakistan were merged to form the province of West Pakistan. With the dissolution of the province in 1970, the territory was reorganised as Kharan District of the province of Balochistan (Pakistan), Baluchistan (later Balochistan). Kharan, Pakistan
Kharan (; ) is a town in Kharan District, Balochistan, Pakistan. It is located at 28°35'0N 65°25'0E with an altitude of 692 metres (2273 feet). The town is also the division headquarters of Rakhshan Division. It is populated by many Baloch clans. Former Federal Shariat Court and Balochistan High Court chief justice Mohammad Noor Meskanzai belongs to this town. Kharan Desert
The Kharan Desert () is a sandy and mountainous desert situated in Balochistan province in south-western Pakistan. This desert was the site of Pakistan's second nuclear test, Chagai-II, which was carried out on 30 May 1998. The land is not fit for agriculture due to low irrigation. The occupation is mainly agriculture and farming. The terrain is mainly dry, grey-brown sand that stretches out. Alexander the Great travelled through this region. Halil River
Halīl River or HalīlRood (also ''Haliri River'', known as the ''Kharaw'' or ''ZarDasht River'' in its upper reaches) is a river stretching for some running in the Baft, Jiroft and Kahnuj districts of Kerman Province, Iran. The Halil rises at above sea level in the Kuh-e shah mountain about to the north-east of Baft, flowing to the south-west until it is joined by the Zardasht and Rabor rivers. Turning towards the south, it flows along the foothills of the Bahr aseman mountains, then to the south-east until Jiroft Dam, which is high, about upstream of Jiroft () at the confluence with the Narab. It passes some east of Kahnuj and terminates in the Hamun-e Jaz Murian of Baluchistan.
