Khan Younis Governorate
The Khan Yunis Governorate () is one of 16 Governorates of Palestine, located in the southern Gaza Strip. Its district capital is Khan Yunis. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the governorate had a population of 426,056 in mid-2022. Its land area is 69.61% urban, 12.8% rural, and 17.57% comprising the Khan Yunis refugee camp. Palestinian Central Bureau Of Statistics
The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS; ) is the official statistical institution of Palestine. Its main task is to provide credible statistical figures at the national and international levels. It is a state institution that provides service to the governmental, non – governmental and private sectors in addition to research institutions and universities. It is established as an independent statistical bureau. The PCBS publishes the ''Statistical Yearbook of Palestine'' and the ''Jerusalem Statistical Yearbook'' annually. The head office of the agency is in Ein Munjed Quarter, Ramallah. Activities Besides general statistics, such as the Retail Price Index, the PCBS also carries out special projects. Gaza Strip
The Gaza Strip, also known simply as Gaza, is a small territory located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea; it is the smaller of the two Palestinian territories, the other being the West Bank, that make up the State of Palestine. Khan Yunis
Khan Yunis (), also spelled Khan Younis or Khan Yunus, is a city in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestine, and serves as the capital of the Khan Yunis Governorate. It has been largely destroyed during the Gaza war. Before the 14th century, Khan Yunis was a village known as "Salqah". Khan Yunis Camp
The Khan Yunis refugee camp, also called Khan Yunis Camp (), is a Palestinian refugee camp in the Khan Yunis Governorate just west of the city of Khan Yunis and two kilometers east of the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean coast in the southern Gaza Strip. While UNRWA states that there were approximately 95,550 Palestinian refugees living in the camp in 2023, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics recorded a population of 41,182 in the 2017 census. The Khan Yunis refugee camp was established after the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, accommodating roughly 35,000 Palestinian refugees, who 1948 Palestinian expulsion and flight, fled or were expelled by Zionist militias from their homes. Abasan Al-Kabira
Abasan al-Kabira () is a Palestinian city located in the Khan Yunis Governorate of the State of Palestine, in the southern Gaza Strip. It is connected with Khan Yunis city by a local street that crosses other villages like Bani Suheila and Khuza'a. Abasan al-Kabera and the nearby village of Abasan al-Saghira, have in recent years been built up to each other so that they form a larger urban area around Khan Yunis. Bani Suheila
Bani Suheila () is a municipality in the Gaza Strip, in the Khan Yunis Governorate of the State of Palestine. The town is located east of the city of Khan Younis. As of 2017, Bani Suheila had a population of 41,439 people. History The history of these towns goes back to Canaanite, Philistine, and Roman times. Before 1948, these towns boasted numerous khans (inns) for travelers. Khan Yunis owes its name to a Mamluk official who built its large khan in the 14th century. Abasan Al-Saghira
Abasan al-Saghira () is a Palestinian agricultural town located in the Khan Yunis Governorate of the State of Palestine, in the southern Gaza Strip. It is located 2 km southeast of Khan Yunis. Al-Qarara
Al-Qarara or Al Qarara () is a Palestinian town located north of Khan Yunis, in the Khan Yunis Governorate of the southern Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, al-Qarara had a population of 29,004 inhabitants in 2017, The town is 15 miles south of Gaza City, and used to be a farming village. It lies on trade routes dating back to the Bronze Age. The town was a site of a displacement camp during the Gaza war. The IDF bombed the Al-Qarara Museum in the area In October 2023, which houses Canaanite and Roman-era artifacts from the region. Khuzaʽa, Khan Yunis
Khuza'a () was a Palestinian town in the Khan Yunis Governorate in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Khuza'a had a population of 11,388 inhabitants in 2017. The town was entirely destroyed as a result of the Gaza war.
