Kevin Toms
Kevin Toms (born 22, April 1957 in Paignton) is a British video game designer who founded Addictive Games and created the original ''Football Manager'', a simulation game released in the early 1980s. It included a portrait of his bearded face on publicity material and cassette covers. Life and career Toms worked as a professional computer programmer for large companies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He developed games in his spare time, taking over a year to create the original versions of his ''Football Manager'' game for the TRS-80 and ZX81. Toms began selling these versions by mail order in 1982 through advertisements placed in computer magazines using the name Addictive Games. The game became a big success, particularly after being ported to the ZX Spectrum, and began to be stocked by high street stores. Paignton
Paignton ( ) is a seaside town on the coast of Tor Bay in Devon, England. Together with Torquay and Brixham it forms the borough of Torbay which was created in 1998. The Torbay area is a holiday destination known as the English Riviera. Paignton's population in the United Kingdom Census of 2011 was 49,021. ''Football Manager 2'' is the second game in the ''Football Manager'' series. Gameplay Gameplay is very similar to the first game, with mostly text based screens (although they are more colorful than the original and usually contain at least basic graphical elements). Input is mostly by moving a cursor (using either joystick or mouse depending on system), rather than entering numbers. The game again starts the player, whichever team is chosen, in division four with a random allocation of players and the player must attempt to gain promotion to division one but now, as well as the FA Cup, the player can also compete in the League Cup so eventually attempt to win the treble. Added features include team sponsorship, a training screen which allows the choice of long or short passing tactics and the ability to place your players in positions on the pitch. Development and release Kevin Toms developed the first game, which was text-only, on a Video Genie, a clone of the Tandy TRS-80. The title evolved out of a board game Toms first designed aged 11 that was itself inspired by the 1968 football management simulation board game ''Soccerama''.
