Kevin Rooney (comedian)
Kevin Rooney (November 12, 1950 – July 9, 2022) was an American stand-up comedian, writer, and actor. Career Rooney first began performing stand-up in 1977 in Washington, D.C., after which he moved to New York City and Los Angeles. He met Jay Leno while performing at The Improv in Hollywood, and the pair became friends and writing partners. He contributed material to Leno's special ''Jay Leno and the American Dream'', and wrote material for Leno on ''Late Night with David Letterman'', on which Rooney also performed stand-up comedy. His acting roles included a guest appearance on ''Cheers'', and as Ira Stone in the 1989 film '' When Harry Met Sally...'' In the 1990s, Rooney began writing for sitcoms. He won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program for his work on ''Dennis Miller Live''. Kevin Rooney (born May 4, 1956) is an American retired boxer and boxing trainer. Amateur boxing career Rooney participated in the 1975 New York Golden Gloves Championship. He defeated Kevin Higgins of West Point in the finals. Rooney trained at the Police Athletic Leagues 120th Precinct in Staten Island, New York. Professional boxing career Rooney began professionally boxing in 1979 and acquired a record of twenty-one wins, four losses, and one draw. In his most important fight as a professional, on July 31, 1982, Rooney lost to three division world champion Alexis Argüello, who was making his first fight in the Junior Welterweight division, by a second-round knockout. He also lost to future WBA world Junior Middleweight champion Davey Moore, who avenged an amateur loss to Rooney, by a knockout in seven rounds, on June 21, 1981. Kevin Rooney (born May 21, 1993) is an American professional ice hockey center who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). Growing up in Canton, Massachusetts, Rooney won two state championships at two different high schools. He first won a Division 2 State championship with the Canton High School Bulldogs before transferring to Berkshire School and winning the 2012 NEPSAC Martin/Earl tournament. After going undrafted into the National Hockey League's Entry Draft, Rooney played four seasons with Providence College from 2012 to 2016. Following his senior year, Rooney signed a professional contract with the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League.
