Kevin Neale
Kevin "Cowboy" Neale (born 18 July 1945) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). St Kilda Recruited from South Warrnambool, and nicknamed "''Cowboy''" for his bow-legs and his rolling gait, Neale played his first match for St Kilda against North Melbourne on 22 May 1965 (round 6), as a back-pocket/ruckman. His debut had been delayed because his own club, South Warrnambool, had needed him as a player for the first three matches of their season. Neale, recruited by St Kilda as a nineteen-year-old, , ruckman, initially played in the backline (as the first change, resting in the back-pocket ruckman), but was moved to full forward in 1966. South Warrnambool Football Club
The South Warrnambool Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Roosters'', is an Australian rules football and netball club which competes in the Hampden Football League. It is based in the regional Victorian city of Warrnambool and have played in the Hampden Football League since 1933. History Believed to have formed in 1902 the club initially played in the Warrnambool District Football Association competition in 1904 against Allensford, Rainbow and West End. In 1918, South Warrnambool and Railways Football Club merged and won the Warrnambool District Football Association premiership, defeating Koroit. Manuka Oval
Manuka Oval is a sporting venue in Canberra, the capital of Australia. It is located in Griffith, in the area of that suburb known as Manuka. Manuka Oval has a seating capacity of 13,550 people and an overall capacity of 16,000 people, although this is lower for some sports depending on the configuration used. The area on which the ground is situated has been used for sport since the early 20th century, but was only enclosed in 1929. It has since undergone several redevelopments, most recently beginning in 2011. Currently, Manuka Oval is primarily used for cricket (during the summer months) and Australian rules football (during the winter months). The ground was previously also used for rugby league and rugby union matches, but there are now more suitable venues in Canberra for those sports. Rene Kink
Rene Kink (born 22 November 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Collingwood Football Club, Essendon Football Club and St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Kink played in a variety of positions during his career but was mainly used as a half forward flanker or full forward. He played in the 1973 preliminary final at the age of 16, becoming the youngest person to play in an AFL/VFL final, and went on to appear in 21 more finals matches in his career although he never got a premiership. Kink played in five losing grand finals however, in 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1983. The last of those was with Essendon who he had transferred to during the season. Essendon won the flag the following year but Kink missed out, a serious knee injury preventing him from playing a game in 1984. Steven Icke
Steven Icke (born 7 March 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from Federal Football League club Noble Park, Icke was a versatile player, usually seen at half forward or half back. He was a premiership player with North Melbourne in 1977 and at the end of the 1981 season moved to the Melbourne Demons. In his debut season he won the Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Medal for Melbourne's best and fairest player. His career was shortened after snapping his Achilles tendon on an exposed sprinkler box at VFL Park in 1983, followed by a knee reconstruction three years later. Laurie Fowler
Laurie Fowler (born 29 December 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). After finishing runner-up in the senior best and fairest count as a 16-year-old at Oakleigh Districts, Fowler was zoned to Richmond. Working his way up from the thirds side, Fowler made his senior VFL debut in 1971 and soon became recognised as a tough and courageous defender. He will be best remembered as the player who crashed into Carlton captain-coach John Nicholls at the start of the 1973 VFL Grand Final. The collision severely impacted Nicholls and helped Richmond avenge their loss to Carlton in the previous year's Grand Final. Richmond won the premiership again in 1974, but Fowler quit after he was omitted from the team. Neville Fields
Neville Fields (born 21 November 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon and South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fields was a left footed centreman and won Essendon's most improved player award in 1971. He was their best and fairest the following season and represented Victoria in interstate football. After struggling for form throughout 1977 he was traded to South Melbourne for Terry Daniher. In 1981 he returned to Essendon where he spent a further two seasons. Jim Edmond
Jim Edmond (born 3 September 1958 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a former Australian rules footballer. Originally from Bairnsdale Football Club, Edmond made his senior debut for Footscray Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) in 1977. Winning the club goalkicking award in 1981 with 25 goals, Edmond was Footscray captain from 1983 to 1985. After playing in three finals matches for Footscray in 1985, Edmond left the club over a contractual dispute. Edmond transferred to the Sydney Swans for the 1986 VFL season, before moving to Brisbane Bears for their inaugural season in 1987. Edmond spent two seasons at Brisbane, playing 17 games before his retirement at the end of the 1988 VFL season. Berto "Robert" DiPierdomenico (born 5 May 1958) is a retired Australian rules footballer who represented in the Australian Football League (AFL) from the 1970s to the 1990s. Popularly known by his nickname "Dipper", DiPierdomenico is one of the most successful Italian Australians to play Australian football, and his contribution to the game was recognized by selection in the VFL/AFL Italian Team of the Century. Jim Buckley (footballer)
Jim Buckley (born 27 November 1959) is a former Australian rules footballer and coach who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Buckley is 175 cm tall and came from Kyneton. Buckley debuted with the Carlton Football Club in 1976 and won the Robert Reynolds Trophy, Carlton's best and fairest award, in 1982. He was a premiership player in 1979, 1981 and 1982. In total, Buckley played 164 games for 146 goals between 1976 and 1990. On 21 June 1983, when he was 23 years old, Buckley collided with a taxi, killing one of the occupants—passenger Peter Cunningham, a 42-year-old bookmaker's clerk—and injuring others. Terry Bright (born 12 February 1958) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong in the VFL. Malcolm Blight
Malcolm Jack Blight AM (born 16 February 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for and coached the North Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Woodville Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He also coached the Geelong Football Club, Adelaide Football Club and St Kilda Football Club. Blight is to date the only player to have kicked 100 goals in a season in both the VFL and the SANFL.
