Kevin Murray (Australian Footballer)
Kevin Joseph Murray MBE (born 18 June 1938), commonly nicknamed "Bulldog", is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League in 333 games over 18 seasons. Family The son of Daniel Thomas Murray (1912–1992) and Eileen May Murray (1913–1998), née Dowdle, Kevin Joseph Murray was born on 18 June 1938. Murray's father, Dan, had also played for Fitzroy, including their 1944 VFL Grand Final victory. Football He learned his junior football from Father John Brosnan (1919–2003) at St. Joseph's College, in Collingwood. Although only tall, he had a very long reach: In his own words, he felt his arm span was more like that of a player tall. Dan Murray (Australian Footballer)
Daniel Thomas Murray (19 December 1912 – 10 November 1992) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Thomas Joseph Murray (1875-1947), and Ellen Murray, née Cameron, née Grist (1874-1961), Daniel Thomas Murray was born at Colac, Victoria on 19 December 1912. He married Eileen May Dowdle (1913-1998) in 1933. Their son, Kevin later played 300 games for Fitzroy (its only 300 game player) and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame as a legend. Football Murray was a halfback and first appeared for Fitzroy in 1933. He left to play with Prahan from 1934 to 1938, then returned to Fitzroy in 1938. Murray was suspended for 10 weeks by the VFA Tribunal in June 1937 on a kicking charge, which resulted in him missing out on playing in Prahran's 1937 VFA premiership. Mal Atwell
Malcolm Walter Atwell (born 5 March 1937) is a former Australian rules football player and coach. He played for East Perth and Perth in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL). Playing career Atwell was a tough, hard hitting footballer and spent most of his time as either a defender or in the ruck. He started his career in 1958 at East Perth and played in their premiership team that season as well as the next. After 162 games with East Perth, he transferred to Perth where he played 76 games. After making his interstate debut in 1960, Atwell represented his state in both the 1961 Brisbane Carnival and 1966 Hobart Carnivals. In all he made 17 interstate appearances and coached his state at the 1969 Adelaide Carnival. He was an inaugural inductee in the West Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2004. The 1966 Hobart Carnival was the 16th edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian football interstate competition. It was the final time that Tasmania hosted a carnival. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football competition in Australia operated by the Australian Football League (AFL) as a second-tier, regional, semi-professional competition.
