Kevin Mathis
Kevin Bryant Mathis (born April 29, 1974) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons. He played college football at Texas A&M University–Commerce. Early years Mathis was born in Gainesville, Texas, and attended Gainesville High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. In football, he was a two-time All-District selection. He accepted a football scholarship from Texas A&M University-Commerce. As a redshirt freshman, he was a backup cornerback, tallying 64 tackles, 3 interceptions, 11 passes defensed and 4 fumble recoveries. A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. Kevin Rey Smith (born April 7, 1970) is a former professional American football player who played cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons for the Dallas Cowboys. High school career Smith help lead West Orange-Stark High School to back to back 4A State Championships (1986–1987). He earned All-State on both sides of the ball his senior year, after intercepting 12 passes and catching 9 touchdowns. Smith was also a letterman in baseball, basketball and track and field. In gridiron football, a punt is a kick performed by dropping the ball from the hands and then kicking the ball before it hits the ground. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university.
