Painting is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a solid surface (called the "matrix" or "support"). Ringling College of Art and Design (RCAD) is a private art and design school in Sarasota, Florida. It was founded by Ludd M. Spivey as an art school in 1931 as a remote branch of Southern College but separated by 1933. History The origins of the college go back to when the President of Southern College (which is now called Florida Southern College) Dr. Ludd M. Spivey wanted to get the support of John Ringling for his college. Spivey learned that Ringling did not have an interest in helping Southern College, was almost broke and wanted to start his own art school on the grounds of his museum. The two discussed the idea of creating an art college before reaching the agreement that they would open the school in Sarasota as a branch of Florida Southern. The School of Fine and Applied Art of the John and Ringling Art Museum was founded on March 31, 1931. It opened on October 2 with 75 registered students. Butler Institute Of American Art
The Butler Institute of American Art, located on Wick Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio, United States, was the first museum dedicated exclusively to American art. Established by local industrialist and philanthropist Joseph G. Butler, Jr., the museum has been operating '' pro bono'' since 1919. Dedicated in 1919, the original structure is a McKim, Mead and White work listed on the National Register of Historic Places . Among the most celebrated works in the Butler's permanent collection is Winslow Homer's ''Snap the Whip'', a famed tribute to the era of the one-room schoolhouse. Nikki Sixx
Nikki Sixx (born Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna Jr.; December 11, 1958) is an American musician, best known as the co-founder, bassist, and primary songwriter of the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. Prior to forming Mötley Crüe, Sixx was a member of Sister before going on to form London with his Sister bandmate Lizzie Grey. In 2000, he formed side project group 58 with Dave Darling, Steve Gibb and Bucket Baker, issuing one album, ''Diet for a New America''.
