Kevin Jenkins is an American politician who is a member of the Oakland City Council as the city council member from the 6th district. He served as the interim mayor of Oakland, California, Oakland, California for a period in 2025, following the resignation of prior interim mayor Nikki Fortunato Bas to serve as a member of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. He currently serves as the City Council president. Biography Jenkins was born in Oakland to parents who worked with the Oakland Unified School District. Oakland City Council
The Oakland City Council is an elected governing body representing the City of Oakland, California. Since 1998, Oakland has had a mayor-council government. The mayor is elected for a four-year term. The Oakland City Council has eight council members representing seven districts in Oakland with one member elected at-large; council members serve staggered four-year terms, and are all elected using instant-runoff voting. Oakland Senior High School (also known as O-High or OHS) is a public high school in Oakland, California. Established in 1869, it is the oldest high school in Oakland and the sixth oldest high school in the state. History Oakland High was first located at 12th Street and Market Street, then at 12th and Jefferson Street. It has been at its current location at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Park Boulevard since 1928. The building that stood before its current manifestation was known as the "Pink Prison" or "Pink Palace." The stairway leading up from Park Boulevard is what remains of the exterior. The 2025 Oakland mayoral special election was held on April 15, 2025, to elect the next mayor of Oakland, California, following the 2024 Oakland mayoral recall election, recall of mayor Sheng Thao in November 2024. The 2024 Oakland mayoral recall election was a successful special recall election to remove Oakland mayor Sheng Thao from office less than two years into her first four-year term. It was held on November 5, 2024 concurrent with the statewide and nationwide general elections. Background Sheng Thao was elected mayor in 2022 with a margin of 0.6% after instant-runoff voting. She was the first Hmong American mayor of a major city in the United States. She was elected as mayor of Oakland in November 2022 and started her term in January 2023.
