Kevin Fitzpatrick (Gaelic Footballer)
Kevin Fitzpatrick is a Gaelic football player from County Laois in Ireland. He plays his club football for Portlaoise and was also a member of the Laois senior team. A very talented soccer player in his teenage years, Kevin was part of the Laois team which won the county's first ever All-Ireland Minor Football Championship in 1996 and in 2003 he was part of the Laois team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time in 57 years. Although the versatile Portlaoise clubman has gone on to play at the highest level with club and county, he has also been a little unlucky from time to time in his career. Portlaoise GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) affiliated hurling, Gaelic football and camogie club based in Portlaoise, the county town of Laois in Ireland. History Founding Portlaoise was founded in the very early years of the Association and its members have had a huge influence on the progress of GAA in the county from its beginning. For its achievements on and off the field and in the promotion of the games and the GAA the club has been acknowledged as a leader in the field. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Laois) or Laois GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Laois. The county board is also responsible for the Laois county teams. The county football team contested the second ever All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) final in 1889. Portlaoise ( ), or Port Laoise (), is the county town of County Laois, Ireland. It is located in the South Midlands in the province of Leinster. The 2016 census shows that the town's population increased by 9.5% to 22,050, which was well above the national average of 3.8%. County Laois ( ; gle, Contae Laoise) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and in the province of Leinster. It was known as Queen's County from 1556 to 1922. The Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Championship is the premier under-17 "knockout" competition in Gaelic football played in Ireland. 2017 was the final year of the minor under 18 football championship as it were replaced by an under 17 championship following a vote at the GAA congress on 26 February 2016. Leinster Senior Football Championship
The Leinster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship and shortened to Leinster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Sunday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Delaney Cup. Ian Fitzgerald
Ian Fitzgerald is a former Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He played his club football for Portlaoise and was also a member of the Laois senior team. He was part of the Laois Under 21 side that won the Leinster title in 1998 and was unfortunate to lose out on a Leinster Minor Football Championship medal in 1995 when it took three games to separate the O'Moore County and eventual All-Ireland Minor Football Championship winners Westmeath. Also in 1995 he earned a reputation as a penalty kick specialist during Laois's Leinster MFC run, famously netting a game-saving spot kick against Kildare in Navan. Fitzgerald made his senior debut against Kildare in 1996 and in 2003 was captain of the Laois team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time in 57 years. The Laois Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois GAA, Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Colm Parkinson
Colm "Wooly" Parkinson (born 1978 in Meelick, Portlaoise) is a retired Irish Gaelic footballer, and journalist. Playing career Club Parkinson was a decorated underage player with Portlaoise, winning county titles at every underage grade before graduating to the senior team in 1997. In his first year at senior level, Portlaoise reached the county final losing to Stradbally. He would win his first title 2 years later in 1999, scoring 0–03 in a narrow win against St Josephs. It was Portlaoise's first county title since 1991. He starred again for Portlaoise in the 2001 final, scoring 1-02 as Portlaoise beat a fancied St. Josephs side. Liam Kearns
Liam Kearns (1962 – 12 March 2023) was an Irish Gaelic football Manager (Gaelic games), manager and player. He managed Offaly county football team, Offaly from 2022 until his death in 2023. Kearns previously managed the Limerick county football team, Limerick, Laois county football team, Laois and Tipperary county football team, Tipperary county teams, as well as several clubs in different counties. He led Tipperary to a 2016 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final, the county's first since 1935. After leaving Tipperary and before being appointed Offaly manager, Kearns managed Clann na nGael GAA (Roscommon).
